About Houston (Spring)


ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team


The Media Relations Manager serves as a the lead for proactive media outreach and response throughout the corporation. Focused on ExxonMobil’s strategic objectives, they are a leader and an integral part of the communications team, working collaboratively and creatively to ensure the ExxonMobil story is communicated efficiently and effectively to external audiences, in particular media.


The manager will lead the media relations team in its development and deployment of an integrated, corporate media relations approach working with ExxonMobil’s business lines, affiliates and other members of the Public & Government Affairs team to clearly and effectively deliver key messages.


Additionally, they will be responsible for creating and implementing media relations strategies and tactics for senior leadership to drive greater awareness of key business activities and objectives to external audiences around the world.


Managers are responsible for leading and developing their team to plan, strategize and coordinate external communications efforts. They must work collaboratively with business leads to communicate ExxonMobil’s goals.


This person should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and lead a highly-capable team of professionals. They should contribute immediately with new ideas and demonstrate care, compassion, leadership, resilience and a continual pursuit of excellence.

What you will do

  • Support global ExxonMobil initiatives through media relations strategy
  • Manage team of media relations employees across the organization to disseminate ExxonMobil news and information to media
  • Provide strategic direction to ExxonMobil business lines, leadership and corporate funcations on media relations
  • Lead and develop media relations professionals
  • Build relationships of trust and confidence with senior-level ExxonMobil leaders. Understand various executive leadership communications styles and be able to to adopt leaders voices into press announcements op-eds, and other external executive communications
  • Ensure integration/alignment of external media relations plans and activities with overall corporate strategic goals
  • Lead team to plan and execute all media relations across various ExxonMobil corporate extneral channels
  • Establish, build, and nurture a strong network of relationships across ExxonMobil business lines

About you


The Media Relations Manager will be a dynamic, energetic leader, invested in the careers of the team, while developing and deploying innovative media relations strategies to support the corporation’s objectives.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills and solid experience developing speeches, executive letters, publications, blog posts, and other written materials
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience, including integrated communications, media relations, journalism, editorial writing, or related areas
  • Expertise in AP style
  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum in journalism, communications, public relations, political science, English, literature, or classics preferred; advanced degree in policy-related discipline also advantageous
  • Experience working with subject matter and translating technical content into digestible communications for broad audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to apply learning to other database environments


Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

  • Demonstrated 15+ years of professional experience in public relations, content creation or public affairs
