Job Description

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams to take designs from prototype through mass production.
  • Allocate resources, monitor progress, and identify and mitigate risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and conduct DFMEA risk analysis, root cause failure investigations, and solutions engineeringDesign packaging and component selection that provide thermal management optimizing for efficiency, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team, leveraging your expertise to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Present design solutions to key stakeholders, defending design decisions, incorporating design feedback into the design cycle.
  • Root cause and solve test failures and production problems.
  • Support and provide engineering improvement feedback on design, material selection, design options, failure implications, problem resolutions.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, promoting the adoption of best practices and efficient engineering methodologies.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Mechanical system design – sheet metal component, weldment design, plastic mold component, material selection, DFMEA, DFM & DFA, etc.
  • Takes individual initiative and works with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team player. Possesses sound business judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Develop and execute component and subsystem design validation plans and test methods to validate product adherence to requirements.
  • Ensure product design standards are adhered to common international standards, such as ANSI/ISO.
  • Work with global cross functional team (APAC, EMEA, and Americas regions) to refine specifications and achieve product performance, aesthetic, schedule, cost, reliability, and quality targets.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Drive innovation and champion the adoption of emerging technologies and engineering practices.
  • Create high quality drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies.
  • Coordinate with external partners, vendors, or contractors as necessary to meet project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, and objectives.
  • Identify and leverage outside resources where required to fill gaps in competencies.
  • Travel globally and domestically up to 30% (supplier visits, on-site at CLOU factories, etc.).
  • Develop and execute test plans throughout the project lifecycle and perform system-level testing to validate control system performance, safety and security to customer, industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote effective communication, knowledge sharing, and teamwork among team members and other departments.
  • Work with the engineering team to complete and maintain documentation of all assemblies, including generation of Bill of Material for production transition.
  • Develops and manages budget, schedule, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines for assigned projects.
  • Document systems design and development processes, including creating technical documentation, quality artifacts and user manuals.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration between engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of project requirements and objectives.
  • Set clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Demonstrate compliance with customer requirements, regulatory requirements and system specifications considering inputs from multiple subsystems.
  • Mechanical design analysis including structural finite element analysis, design for assembly, design for manufacturing, and design for test.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to design and implement robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Work collaboratively within the Global Product Team to fulfill requirements and/or meet applicable standards, including the associated cost and cycle time.
  • Experience in 2D drawing quality control, ASME Y14.5-2018 and ISO standards.
  • Mentor and coach team members in technical and personal skill development.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and innovations, and evaluate their potential impact on our engineering processes.
  • Guide the professional development of team members, identifying training needs and supporting their growth.
  • Provide input into the recruitment and onboarding of engineering talent, identifying skill gaps and ensuring the team has the necessary resources to succeed.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in CAD modeling, CERO preferred
  • Experience with seismic analysis and familiarity with IEEE 693 and/or ASCE 7-16 requirements
  • BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of GD&T/stack-up, finite element analysis, and design for reliability analysis
  • Experience with obtaining compliance and certification to global standards.
  • Experience designing packaging solutions for battery or power electronics systems.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in heat transfer, mechanics, and fluids
  • Experience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, welding / brazing, metal stamping, extruding, thermoforming, plating, heat treating, and bonding
  • 8-10 years of product design experience
  • Structural analysis expertise, static and frequency response spectrum FEA experience.
  • Thermal system analysis expertise, FEA, and CFD experience
  • A detail-oriented personality with solid documentation, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Experience with obtaining compliance and certification to global standards
  • Knowledge of electrical principles and their application in renewable energy systems
  • Experience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing data
  • Experience designing products for outdoor environments
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.
  • Experience in designing for high volume assembly, both manual and automated
  • Experience with environmental, reliability, safety, and industry standard requirements for industrial products
  • Deep understanding of material science of components used in mechanical design (metals, insulators, plastics, connectors, gaskets, etc) and their fabrication processes
