Mechanical Engineer – Sperry Drilling:
This opening is for a mechanical engineering position in the technology department of Sperry Drilling which is a Halliburton Product Service Line. Sperry products encompass a complete line of downhole tools for drilling and logging while drilling (LWD). These tools are designed to withstand the most extreme drilling environments while still making laboratory grade measurements. This position offers exceptionally broad exposure to all aspects of mechanical engineering and design.
Responsibilities:
- Candidate will work under the guidance of the lead mechanical engineer.
- Additional responsibilities include periodic reporting of planned and completed development activities, providing estimated completion dates, and prompt reporting of issues.
- Candidate will participate in characterization, qualification, modeling, analysis, design, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and design reviews for new and existing mechanical designs.
- Work on mechanical engineering tasks such as mechanical design, stress analysis, etc.
- This includes communication with different groups including project management, immediate supervisor, electrical and software groups, and other team members, etc.
- Assist Sr Mechanical Engineers in the development of Sperry downhole tools.
- Active participation in mechanical engineering development.
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
- Mechanical Engineer Degree – New Grad
- Experience with SolidWorks Mechanical modeling
Preferred qualifications:
- FEA stress analysis
- Knowledge of materials used in downhole tools
- Experience with the following mechanical engineering specialties:
- Experience with downhole tool mechanical design or Field service experience working with down hole drilling equipment.
- Packaging of M/LWD sensors
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques used to make downhole tool components.
- Understanding of shock and vibration
- Intern experience would be helpful
- Basic hydraulic calculations
- Basic statics and dynamics calculations
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Experience with SolidWorks mechanical modeling
