Job Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team at Sonetics - the leading provider of communication solutions that enable natural conversation in challenging environments.


In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and sustaining of Sonetics' products to ensure that our products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and functionality, while also achieving optimal manufacturability and cost-effectiveness. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, product managers, and operations personnel, and will collaborate with external suppliers and vendors to ensure that our products are designed to meet customer requirements and manufacturing specifications. Essential job duties include:


  1. Design and develop innovative headsets and related audio and radio products using SolidWorks.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather product requirements, specifications, and user needs.
  3. Evaluate and select appropriate materials for product design based on functionality, durability, and manufacturing considerations.
  4. Develop and optimize manufacturing processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective production.
  5. Conduct analyses and simulations to verify product performance and reliability.
  6. Create technical documentation, including design specifications, assembly instructions, and bill of materials.
  7. Work closely with quality assurance teams to identify and resolve design or manufacturing issues.
  8. Support continuous improvement initiatives by researching and implementing new technologies, materials, and processes.
  9. Other duties as assigned


As a Mechanical Engineer you are deadline oriented, highly organized, and command strong attention to detail. You have the ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and communicate complex technical concepts to non-experts. Your skills and experience include:


Required Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, machining, and additive manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and familiarity with relevant industry standards.
  • Mechanical design principles, including tolerance analysis, fatigue, and stress analysis.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • 3+ years of experience and expert-level skill in product CAD using SolidWorks.


Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with the design of electronic enclosures and integration of electronic components.
  • Experience with acoustic or audio product design.
  • Experience in Test Engineering, including the Design of Experiments (DoE), test plan development, and operation of various test equipment such as strain gauges, force testers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and environmental chambers.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and tools for evaluating test results and optimizing product performance.
  • Familiarity with software and automation tools used in product design and development, such as Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
