Overview

As a scientist in the Materials Sciences group, you will join a talented, multi-investigator team performing experimental and computational research to design functional materials and innovate energy storage and conversion devices. You will develop strong hypotheses driven program to create molecular level understanding of charge transfer processes at heterogeneous interfaces by combining various chemical synthesis, such as chemical vapor deposition and multimodal analytical tools, such as electron microscopy and in-situ XPS/Raman capabilities. This position will primarily focus on understanding material chemistry in well-defined and model interfaces prepared by atomically precise deposition/synthesis methods and combine the experimental analyses with computer simulations to advance the scientific frontier in functional materials and interfaces. You will also develop a novel experimental research tools focused on deposition system for their seamless integration with material characterization capabilities including surface science techniques such as XPS. The research will require a close collaboration with prominent materials and computational scientists working towards designing next generation functional materials with emphasis on energy storage and conversion materials.

Responsibilities
  • Lead manuscript and contribute to proposal development efforts
  • Develop novel materials synthesis and characterization capabilities to establish functional materials design strategy for targeted application.
  • Present research findings at technical conferences and project review meetings
  • Design and perform multimodal and in-situ characterization of heterogeneous interfaces
  • Interact, communicate, and tackle technical problems with diverse team of scientists

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
  • PhD
  • MS/MA -OR-

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of collaborating with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff
  • Experience with the development of research proposals
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of high vacuum systems is highly desired
  • Proven background in synthesis of functional materials
  • Proven expertise in combined materials characterization with laboratory and synchrotron based x-rays, electron, and vibrational spectroscopies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, materials science, or related field
