Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates massage therapy services to facilitate therapeutic outcomes. Conducts massage and bodywork therapy, which is defined legally as systems of activity applied to the soft tissues of the human body for therapeutic, educational, or relaxation purposes. Supervises massage therapy students to develop their clinical skills and ensure the delivery of quality client care.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful completion in course study consisting of a minimum of 500 classroom hours of supervised instruction at a NCBMBT Board-approved school.
  • Intern or work experience in a comparable setting preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associates in Applied Science Therapeutic Massage coursework or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

  • CPR certification.
  • Licensed by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides client assessment, treatment and evaluation. Ensures client evaluations and treatments are comprehensive, functional, and according to the Standards of Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice.

2. Maintains accurate documentation. Responds to physician orders and all service requests within timeframes specified per policy.

3. Meets program financial and productivity standards, understands budgeted expectations, and utilizes supplies appropriately.

4. Participates and implements quality improvement initiatives/programs to evaluate service delivery. Researches and suggests evidence based best practices to improve the quality of client care.

5. Adheres to federal, state, hospital and professional regulations and Code of Ethics. Practices according to guidelines established by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy and The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

6. Promotes professional development and education: attends educational meetings and workshops; reads professional publications; participates in professional networks and associations; shares clinical expertise and provides consultation to staff and other health care workers; represents program on committees and teams; and, provides clinical instruction for massage therapy students.

7. Communicates in a professional and timely manner with clients, staff, and external customers.

8. Provides comprehensive therapeutic care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric clients to ensure positive outcomes in accordance with age/developmental guidelines.

9. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building: following hospital policies and procedures, following departmental policies and procedures, contributing to the overall quality of services, assuming responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policies and procedures.

  • Ability to communicate with clients of all age groups and significant others appropriate to their level of comprehension
  • Excellent oral, written communication and composition skills
  • Ability to communicate on a professional level with health care providers and the public
  • Has knowledge, clinical skills, and understanding of the client throughout the entire span of life
