Job Description
Location: Summit Therapy
Hours: M-F
JOB SUMMARY:
Implements and coordinates client care specific to the client population served. Ensure that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the hospital’s policies and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with mission, vision, and values of Pullman Regional Hospital, the practice standards of the American Massage Therapy Association, and the goals of the department and the organization. This position is fully benefited (medical, dental, and vision) and sees 5-6 patients within an 8-hour day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Training: Successful completion of a course of study in a Washington State Board of Massage approved massage program.
Experience: None required; prefer six months or more of experience working as a massage practitioner.
License/Registration: Licensed as a Massage Practitioner in the State of Washington.
Population Served: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Age, and Elderly.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Planning and Prioritizing
Schedules client appointment. Demonstrates the ability to reprioritize activities to achieve better results.
Information Gathering
Interviews client and analyzes subjective and objective data and the Patient Information Form to assess acute needs, expectations, and the goals of the client. Confers with members of the health care team to obtain additional client information and integrate massage treatments with other aspects of client health care.
Decision-Making
Determines massage treatment required for meeting joint goals. Identifies and assesses inpatients that would benefit from massage by evaluating patient day sheet and nurses’ referrals.
Communication
Actively initiates and participates in communication to assure effective client care. Actively participates in staff meetings and/or patient conferences as needed or requested. Communicates with clients, families, visitors, peers and other health care providers in an open and respectful manner.
Technical Proficiency
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills required for this position in accordance with the competency checklist. Demonstrates the ability to learn and use new client care skills and new pieces of equipment. Utilizes all of the hospital communication systems.
Teamwork
Initiates and fosters collaboration with the client, family members, peers and other health care providers to ensure quality patient outcomes. Collaborates with department manager and peers working towards achievement of organizational and departmental goals.
Quality
Assures quality of massage service for each client the LMP cares for to include providing a safe and clean environment. Identifies areas to be considered for improvement and participates in the quality improvement effort.
Outcomes
Evaluates patient and administers the most appropriate type and duration of massage strokes. Records client treatment, response, and progress in SOAP format daily.
Personal Education
Participates in ongoing educational activities to maintain and acquire massage knowledge and skills. Maintains education requirements for the State of Washington license.
Work Effectiveness
Demonstrates the ability to consistently deliver quality massage care for the typical assignment using a reasonable amount of time and resources.
Reliability
Performs job functions in a prompt, dependable, and consistent manner. Demonstrates flexibility in assuming new work responsibilities.
Education of Others
Instructs clients regarding exercise, stretching, or other home care to enhance myofascial therapeutic regimen. Initiates an effort to education anyone showing an interest in massage benefits.
Creating a Safe Work Environment
Identifies safety concerns and actively seeks to resolve these issues.
Stewardship
Assumes the willingness to be accountable for the well-being of the larger organization by operating in service, rather than in control, of those around us.
Ethical Conduct
Consistently communicates and collaborates with colleagues about decisions which involve legal and ethical issues.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Encourages ambulatory patients to walk. Participates in hospital committees as appropriate. Utilizes all of the hospital communication systems. Performs other non-essential functions as requested.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sitting: 10%. Standing/Walking: 90%.
Constant leaning to reach position of patient.
Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Occasional pushing/pulling of sheets on carts.
Occasional climbing of stairs to reach other levels of the building.
Constant reaching/handling/fingering/feeling to obtain supplies, write reports and perform client care functions.
Frequent talking/hearing/seeing for all aspects of client care and administrative duties.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Location: Inside.
Occasional exposure to body odors.
Frequent exposure to warm room temperatures while physically active.
Constant exposure to street traffic noise and hallway noise.
Occasional exposure to biohazardous materials.
Pay Range:
$23.53-$36.75 Hourly
