JOB TITLE: Marketing & Outreach Director


REPORTS TO: Executive Director


ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION


Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School (CBOBS) is a non-profit educational organization and expedition school that serves students of all ages and backgrounds through challenging learning expeditions that inspire self-discovery, both in and out of the classroom. We deliver programs using unfamiliar settings as a way for students to experience adventure and challenge in a way that helps participants discover that they can do more than they thought possible.


Job Overview & Objectives


The Director of Marketing & Outreach sets and implements marketing and outreach strategies aimed at increasing CBOBS visibility among key constituents and leveraging our brand. The Director of Marketing & Outreach reports to the Executive Director and has one direct report. The Director of Marketing & Outreach is a highly collaborative leadership team member working with the Sales, Development, and Program teams to raise nearly $4.3M a year organizationally.


We are looking for a teammate that is passionate about adventure and the outdoors. To be successful in this role, you must characterize yourself as a self-starter with demonstrated success in brand management and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You’ll bring strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities, and comfort managing projects independently primarily through the following initiatives listed in the Duties and Responsibilities section.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Lead the overall brand voice and messaging components across all marketing channels, internally and externally.
  • Identify, cultivate, and manage all media relationships to raise the organization’s visibility through press coverage, and targeted events.
  • Coordinate with other marketing leadership from across the Outward Bound system on projects, including aligning with system-wide initiatives driven by Outward Bound USA.
  • Overall management of paid, earned, and owned channels to drive campaign performance across the customer journey.
  • Identify and utilize key metrics to report on overall campaign effectiveness and guide future efforts.
  • Develop and execute annual and multi-year marketing strategies to support the strategic plan and the sales, development, and program goals.
  • Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies to cultivate relationships with community members, influencers, and advocates to build trust and brand loyalty.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES


Knowledge & Skills


  • Effective communicator with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences (donors, alumni, students, parents, partner organizations, etc.)
  • A creative capacity for design, attention to detail in reviewing design work, and understanding of brand consistency across a variety of media. Graphic design experience a plus.
  • Experience working in nonprofit environment, with a passion for working with youth, and a strong commitment to the mission and values of Outward Bound.
  • Dynamic ability to create broad public relations campaigns that involve active media outreach and coordinated communication to reach a pre-determined goal.
  • Experience using a CRM and/or CDP to manage customer data. Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Ability to track progress on important goals and campaign effectiveness using tools such as KPIs and/or OKRs. Google Analytics and Ad Grant experience is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of effective approaches to segmentation and leveraging dynamic content for every stage of the funnel.


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to sit at a desk or computer 90% of the time or greater.
  • Ability to stand, squat, or sit on uneven surfaces for short periods of time.


Education & Work Experience


  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.


Compensation & Benefits


Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000; commensurate with experience.
