This is a remote position and can be based anywhere within the U.S.


Job Summary
  • Responsible for development and oversight of relevant, science-based content that provides compelling resources and tools and provides value and support for health-related professionals (clinicians, nurses, social workers, public health professionals, payors, providers, etc.) in the oncology field:
  • Includes targeted and tailored content for resources, toolkits, curricula, print materials, PowerPoint presentations, social media messaging, etc.
  • Content development includes translation of complex information into understandable content at appropriate levels for the intended audiences.


Major Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Managing Director and Professional Content team to identify learning needs of professionals and develop strategies to address needs and ongoing education.
  • Researches, develops, and edits medical and scientific information as part of a comprehensive cancer information delivery system for professional audiences.
  • Organize, maintain, and prioritize projects for the editorial calendar.
  • Works with Managing Director, Professional Content to plan editorial strategy for new and existing health professional content:
  • Serves as a knowledgeable oncology patient care resource to the organization.
  • Partners with the Managing Editor for Production on special digital content projects for professional content.
  • Provides editorial strategy, feedback, and support for the creation and ongoing management of professional facing medical content for the entire Patient Support Pillar.
  • Partners with the Managing Editor for Production for publishing of professional content on cancer.org.
  • Analyze potential projects: define scope, identify dependencies, and recommend approach.
  • Identify information gaps, overlaps, and areas of content that need reorganization.
  • Collaborates with other departments to oversee the continuous improvement of professional content on all channels (cancer.org, print, social media, other digital platforms, resources, etc.).
  • Develops professional content for clarity, accuracy, style, and voice.
  • Manages team of professional content writers to ensure professional content is reviewed and edited for clarity, accuracy, style, and voice.
  • Copy edit new and revised professional content for clarity, accuracy, style, and voice, paying special attention to readability of online content – ensuring a logical progression of ideas, formatting text for easy scanning, providing appropriate context for unfamiliar concepts, and creating forward paths to additional content.
  • Edits medical and health professional content:
  • Recommend editorial approach on new content and major revisions, as needed.
  • Familiarity with web design processes and best practices in user interface and user experience.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Knowledge of basic HTML.
  • Excellent computer/Internet literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word and experience with content management systems; ability to learn new publishing tools.
  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • Able to work independently or in a team environment, with writers, editors, and medical professionals at all levels.
  • Partner with the Managing Editor of Production with special digital content projects for medical content on cancer.org and other web properties:
  • Able to see relationships, anticipate issues, and find solutions.
  • Able to take complicated material and present in a compelling manner to targeted professional audiences.
  • Ensure consistency of language with other cancer information content and sections.
  • Professional experience in the medical or academic field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, preferably in health communications, behavioral health, public health, health sciences, implementation sciences, or related fields
  • Excellent editorial knowledge, insight, and experience.
  • Advise on appropriate site structure, page layout, component usage, calls-to-action, and linking.
  • Ability to travel (by car and/or airplane) when necessary.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including leadership skills, communication skills, and the ability to motivate, negotiate, and influence others.
  • Strong knowledge of AMA and other editorial styles as well as readability and health literacy issues.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices.
  • Able to think creatively.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Act as a professional content key stakeholder and point of contact on cross-departmental workgroups focused on the continuous improvement across multiple information sharing channels.
  • Minimum of 5 years-experience with professional content editorial work.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of content management systems, workflows, and best practices.
  • Adult learning expertise preferred.
  • Understanding of Agile web development methodology.
The starting rate is $79,000 - $90,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
