Position Purpose
This position is responsible for addressing, both reactively and proactively, any Safety & Pest Control issues arising from our Store and/or Distribution Center Networks, as well as the Support Centers. This includes, but it is not limited to, analyzing data and trends, reviewing, amending, and/or creating, appropriate policies to effectively prevent work related incidents and injuries, oversee performance of services provided by pest control providers and track trends and service compliance with the Petco Pest Control Program. In addition, secure engagement of field leadership to formulate joint mitigation plans and provide consistent reliable claims reporting to field partners that provides actionable data.
Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities w ith or without a reasonable accommodation.
Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on building trust and minimizing company liability.
Conduct Safety compliance audits as requested, which may require overnight and/or day travel by air or road.
Provide technical and regulatory support to Stores, Distribution Centers, and Support Centers as needed to attain, maintain, and/or exceed requirements.
Analyze data, evaluate trends, and provide consistent and actionable feedback to internal and external customers with an emphasis on decreasing our exposure and loss.
Keep current on industry trends affecting Safety/Pest Control policies and regulations, and provide direction to maintain, attain, and/or exceed company goals and standards.
Coordinate and oversee the relationship with Facilities and Store Maintenance as it relates to repairs required to maintain the compliance of the Petco Pest Control Program
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan, coordinate and implement complex projects to address Safety/Pest Control issues pertinent to all Petco locations – including stores and Support Centers. This involves analyzing information gathered through interviews with business process owners, industry research, internal and external resource assessment and extensive documentation review. Determine whether established safety policies and procedures are appropriate and are being followed. Recommend and draft revisions to policies and procedures to achieve compliance in a sustainable and proactive manner. Work closely with Petco Stores organization to identify trends, prioritize Safety objectives, identify proper path to control pest related issues, provide actionable and relevant feedback, and follow up on performance. Prepare and present regular updates regarding Safety/Pest control issues to senior management for review in regular meetings with oversight committees. This entails compiling detailed reports, analyzing data, evaluating trends and presenting them in a clear, concise and actionable manner to the affected parties. Create Safety training as needed with management and non-management staff at all levels and locations. Maintain a high degree of familiarity of effective Safety policies and procedures and quickly mobilize to implement company-wide. Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes. Perform Workplace Safety audits and/or special projects as assigned or required. Ensure Pest Control Provider is consistently meeting established SLA’s regarding response time and execution.
Planning and Problem Solving:
The incumbent is required to develop plans to both proactively and reactively respond to Safety/Pest Control issues based on hierarchy of response and prioritize accordingly as to minimize risk to both our partners and company.
Due to the variation of Safety and Pest related issues, strategy and approach can differ significantly and will require creative problem solving as to ensure all safety and health goals are met, in all states, at all levels, and in a sustainable manner.
Impact:
Potential savings in Workers Compensation spend by reducing the number of new WC claims by 10% in the first year. Additional savings in subsequent years by fully executing established safety plan including implementing effective safety audits, securing engagement from field leadership regarding safety initiatives, and compliance with existing safety procedures. Efforts are also intended to attain a lower Worker’s Compensation Insurance Experience Modifier, resulting in reduced workers’ compensation insurance premiums.
Nature of Supervision:
Incumbent is responsible for exercising discretion and independent judgment when performing job duties and must display a high degree of professionalism and respect toward external parties and internal business partners at all levels of the organization.
Supervision Responsibility:
Two Safety remote direct reports: safety analyst in Mira Loma, CA and Cranbury, NJ.
Two Pest Control Coordinator direct reports: Both positions located in the San Antonio Support Center in San Antonio, TX.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree is required. A background in Safety, Health, or the Natural Sciences is preferred. Qualified candidates will possess a solid knowledge of Safety regulations and practices, especially as they relate to national retail organizations. Excellent organizational, negotiation, influencing, investigation, analytical and communication skills (oral and written) are required due to the nature of involvement and interactions with business process owners at all levels of management. Advanced level of understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.

Work Environment:
Most job functions are performed while seated indoors with little or no exposure to hazards. Occasional travel to various company locations or regulatory offices required.
