Job Description
The principal purpose of this position is to ensure food safety and quality, collaborate with other teams, provider food safety and quality leadership, have food safety and quality education and experience, be a problem solver, understand food safety and quality programs, understand food safety and quality science, have various skills, help to implement food safety and quality programs in DCs and stores, understand business merchandising strategy, identify areas of merchandising risks and opportunities relating to food safety and quality, and develop food safety and quality action plans to support the buying team in developing and improving the business.

Ensures Food Safety and Quality
  • Develop and oversee policies and procedures that are related to food safety and quality. Complete audits, as well as create and lead training programs.
Collaboration with Other Teams
  • Work closely with various departments and teams, including production, sanitation, maintenance, shipping and receiving, and inventory controls. Work to solve problems and create policies to prevent issues from arising in the future. Meet together with heads of other departments to brainstorm solutions and discuss any concerns.
Provide Food Safety and Quality Leadership
  • When new policies and certification programs are implemented, be responsibility to ensure that relevant teams are aware and trained on any new changes. Training on new policies will ensure that everyone takes food safety and quality seriously. Work to establish a supportive environment where the focus is on productivity, quality, and professionalism.
Education and Experience in Food Safety and Quality
  • Have a range of education and have a minimum of five years of experience. Have a degree in chemistry, food science, or a related field such as biology or nutrition. Experience can range from working in research and development, quality management, and food process engineering. Should have certifications in HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), SQF (Safe Quality Food), and BRC (British Retail Consortium).

  • Whenever an issue occurs, capable of acting quickly and efficiently in order to understand what happened, find ways to solve the problem, and implement a plan of action.
Understand Food Safety and Quality Programs
  • Food safety and quality programs are put in place in order to proactively identify problems before they occur. Aware of how to identify potential issues and what to do in the case that something does go wrong. Be responsible for training and implementation.
Understand Food Safety and Quality Science
  • Having a thorough understanding of the science of food, including topics like allergens, cross contamination, and food temperature.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Daily, weekly, monthly basis directly interface with facilities team and service providers to ensure proper risk mitigations in DCs and store locations
  • Conduct on site and virtual food safety and quality training along with creating/updating food safety and quality training programs as needed in DC – to include self-development training to maintain certifications and current on best practices
  • Audit all DC facilities for adherence to food safety and quality standards and related SOPs
  • Store visitations in critical markets to train, direct, guide field operator and interact with regulatory agencies
  • Be the company “go to” resource expert for food safety and quality, including oversight of food safety and quality company results, activities, mitigations, and tactical planning
  • Daily weekly monthly monitoring of all DC food safety and quality related KPIs and activities

Education and Experience
Required:
B.S. in science, technology or engineering and Certificates in food safety and quality
5- 7 years related industry experience
Specialized Experience, Education, Training, or Qualification
Required:
Experience in Managing food safety and quality Programs
Managing, Training and Developing Comprehensive food safety and quality
Certifications / Licenses food safety and quality Preferred:
Developing, implementing and overseeing HACCP based food safety, sanitation, bio-security, training and quality assurance programs
Food Safety and Quality Certifications
Computer Skills:
MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint
Communication Skills:
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written are essential
Travel Required:
This job may require over 50% travel, inspecting, training and auditing
Start Rate = $97,900 to 108,000 based on experience
