Manager, Cloud Platform Engineering

We’re actively seeking a talented Cloud Platform Engineering Manager to join our Cloud Shared Services team in Newport Beach, CA. This role can be on-site, hybrid, or 100% remote.

As a Cloud Platform Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success by leading the continued development, security, governance, and roadmap of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud core infrastructure. You will fill a new role that sits on a team of fifteen people in the Corporate Information Technology division. Your colleagues will include Cloud Engineers, Architects, DevOps Engineers, and fellow IT leadership professionals. The teams organize around Agile methodology and have a very collaborative communication style.

How you will make an impact

• Lead and grow a team of experienced cloud engineers, providing leadership and guidance to deliver scalable and secure cloud architectures to our global internal customers.
• Create, maintain, and implement architecture and CI/CD documentation, and maintain standards, guidelines, and procedures.
• Manage Cloud Financial Management Program to ensure cloud costs are visible and responsibly managed.
• Lead agile practice to deliver on roadmap objectives.
• The manager will be responsible for furthering the maturity of the platform as a global internal development platform aligned to cloud native self-service principles and self-service automation, while ensuring operational excellence of the platform.
• Provide vision and thought leadership to the business and IT teams that leverage cloud services and help shape the strategic vision and roadmap for cloud capabilities.
• Implement and maintain performance and health monitoring and alerting systems for cloud infrastructure.
• Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• This individual will work closely with other departments to ensure the platform meets the needs of our clients, while also staying up to date with the latest cloud technologies and industry trends.
• Manage company relationship with cloud provider vendors.
• Serve as a compliance lead for areas of responsibility with a focus on automated and policy-based controls.
• Take a passionate approach to constantly improving the security of our cloud platforms.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure the cloud platform meets the needs of our clients and developer teams.

The Experience You Will Bring

• 8+ years of experience in systems architecture, infrastructure solutions, or software engineering design for a Fortune 500 business (prefer global scope)
• Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps.
• Ability to influence others and lead geographically diverse teams.
• 2+ years of experience in managing a team of engineers.
• Proven leadership and communication skills, with a demonstrable ability to manage and motivate a team of senior level engineers.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with continuous configuration management and infrastructure as code platforms such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, etc.
• 4+ years of experience engineering cloud platform solutions, preferably in AWS

What Will Make You Stand Out

• Microsoft Azure experience is also a plus.
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Experience with container orchestration platforms preferred.
• AWS Certifications are preferred.

Base Pay Range

The base pay range noted provides a basis to determine the appropriate offer dependent upon several factors including but not limited to geographic location, experience, skills, education and pay equity. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$125,400.00 - $156,700.00 - $211,600.00
