There will be a 3% COLA effective 7/1/23.
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of maintenance, repair and construction work in the care of public grounds, buildings, streets, sidewalks, right-of-way, and easements; operates and maintains a variety of maintenance and construction tools and equipment; and performs related work as required.
- Cleans and maintains the City Yard.
- Collects trash and empties trash cans at bus stops, city malls, and city owned parking lots.
- Maintains all city planters by weeding and changing out plants.
- Performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction work in the care of public grounds, buildings, streets, sidewalks, right-of-way, and easements.
- Operate automotive and construction equipment.
- Maintains city street and traffic signs, curb markings and residential curb address markings.
- Sets up appropriate traffic safety controls during special events and around maintenance work sites.
- Repairs plumbing issues inside city facilities.
- Maintains lighting in city facilities and parking lots.
- Replaces broken sprinklers and irrigation lines.
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment such as tamping rammers, blowers, grinders, and saws.
- Maintains city streets and sidewalks.
- Utilizing blowers and hand tools, cleans parking lots and sidewalks.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and techniques of Work Area Traffic Control.
- The purposes, use, and maintenance of equipment used in the maintenance of streets, sidewalks, buildings and grounds.
- General construction and maintenance methods and terminology.
- Basic concept of public works and facility maintenance principles and practices.
- Operation, maintenance and repair of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Operations, services, and activities of a public works and facility maintenance programs.
- Basic principles and practices of irrigation systems.
Ability to:
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the public.
- Follow written and oral directions or instructions from supervisor.
- Use equipment and tools related to street, sidewalk, and facility maintenance safely and efficiently.
- Understand and follow work rules and procedures.
- Operate automotive and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
- Work creatively and collaboratively with others.
- Work effectively and independently in the absence of supervision.
Other Qualifications:
Possession of a valid Class C motor vehicle operator's license from the State of California.
Physical Demands:
- Work in outside environmental conditions, including unfavorable weather conditions.
- Use arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
- Lift, push or pull up to 60 pounds.
- Walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
- Drive, sit, stand, walk, run, kneel and climb for extended periods of time.
- Drive a motor vehicle legally and safely under various conditions; bend, reach, enter and exit a motor vehicle frequently.

Vacation Leave: To accrue at a total of 80 hours per year of employment for a maximum of 320 hours.
Holidays: 13 holidays per year, which includes 2 floating paid holidays.
Sick Leave: To accrue at a rate of eight (8) hours per month for a maximum accrual of 96 hours per year. Sick leave shall accrue without limitation.
Health Insurance: Medical Insurance Coverage provided by the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). 100% paid for employee and 50% toward dependent coverage. Lifetime benefit for fully vested CalPERS employees (5yrs) upon retirement from City.
Dental Insurance: Provided by Delta Dental: DeltaCare USA and Delta Dental PPO. 100% paid for employee and 75% for the cost of employee's dependents. Lifetime benefit for fully vested CalPERS employees upon retirement from City.
Vision Insurance: Provided by VSP. 100% paid for employees. Lifetime benefit for fully vested CalPERS employees upon retirement from City.
Deferred Compensation: Each month, the City will match an employee’s contribution to the City-offered 457 plan, up to a maximum of 1.5% of the employee’s base salary.
Disability: Provided for non-occupational accidents or illness. Premiums are paid by the City for full-time employees.
Retirement: The City participates in the CalPERS retirement system. Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees hired after January 1, 2012 are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.Social Security: The City does not participate in Social Security. The City and employee both contribute 1.45% for Medicare.
