Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS

RECRUITMENT DETAILS:

  • The recruitment will be run as Open and Promotional, meaning it is open to current employees, employees on the reemployment list, and the public. This will result in the creation of 2 Eligibility Lists which will be used to fill open positions during the life of the lists: one priority list for successful internal candidates and a second list for successful external candidates.
  • The current opening is 40 hours per week, 12 months per year in the Maintenance Department. We will be establishing an Eligibility List for the current vacancy and any future openings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to:

  • Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed.
  • Four years semi-skilled or skilled level work in the glazing trade.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be, and remain, insurable under the District's vehicle driver's insurance policy at the standard rate.
  • Valid California driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Types and sizes of a variety of glass.
  • Appropriate safety equipment, precautions and procedures.
  • Storefront construction.
  • Methods and procedures for glass installation and storefront construction.
  • Legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Methods, materials and equipment used in glazing.

ABILITY TO:

  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Prepare cost estimates.
  • Comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Install security screens (amplimesh).
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and observe all applicable worker safety rules/laws.
  • Operate a vehicle to conduct work.
  • Determine grade, size and type of glass.
  • Repair vertical blinds, blackout curtains and draperies.
  • Maintain a work pace appropriate to a given workload.
  • Fabricate and repair window screens.
  • Read and interpret written instructions and diagrams.
  • Perform skilled glazing work involved in installing and repairing glass in windows and doors.
  • Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Replace a variety of glass.
  • Demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.

FUNCTION & DUTIES

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform skilled glazing work involved in installing and repairing glass in windows and doors.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Repair and maintain door and window closers and other fixtures. E
  • Remove putty and broken glass from windows, doors and skylights in school and office buildings; measure size of openings; cut and set new glass. E
  • Operate tools and equipment utilized in the glazing trade. E
  • Estimate, repair and replace broken windows and door glass; repair door locks as required. E
  • Verify and complete District orders. E
  • Establish and implement prudent safety policies and procedures relative to the glazing function and work area. E
  • Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required. E
  • Lay out work; estimate cost, time and materials. E
  • Fabricate and repair window screens; install security screens (amplimesh). E
  • Operate a District vehicle to conduct work; clean and service assigned vehicle. E
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as required.
  • Maintain related records. E
  • Perform related duties as assigned. Note: At the end of some of the duty statements there is an "E" which identifies essential duties required of the classification.
  • Determine grade, size and type of glass and submit requisitions; maintain inventory. E
  • Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required. E

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor and outdoor work environment; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist; moderate lifting up to 50 pounds; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized glazing tools and equipment; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.

HAZARDS:

Working with sharp and fragmented glass.

Currently full-time employees (employees working 6 hours or more per day) pay 10% of the premium cost for these plans. All plans are available to the employees and their dependents.
