Role Overview

We are looking for:

  • A Maintenance B Mechanical Technician to provide preventative and repair maintenance support to the surface soda ash, diversified/specialty products and all other surface facilities, ensuring safe and continuous operation.

We count on you for:

  • Actively participates in safety, crew, department, and company meetings, and must be willing to work shift work and overtime.
  • Assists and trains others in maintenance tasks, participates and assists in cleanup and maintenance job functions.
  • Analyses mechanical and/or operational problems with assigned surface facilities equipment and applies corrective action.

Essential functions:
1. Must be able to read and write for the purpose of understanding operator log books, work orders, shop drawings, equipment specifications and directions, written communications and job orders, filling out various written requests, and any other requests that may require reading or writing.
2. Must have vision clarity at 5 feet or more and be able to adapt vision in low light, dusty conditions and enclosed areas (with or without corrective lenses).
3. Must be capable of deciphering colors for the purposes of electrical wires, safety signs, and other types of equipment.
4. Must be able to lift, pull/push and carry, equipment and objects weighing 0-50 pounds from ground level to above head level on a regular daily basis.
5. Analyze mechanical and operational problems with the assigned equipment and operational conditions, and apply corrective action.
6. Must possess knowledge and understanding of surface operations, operational areas, lockout procedures, personal protection devices, both emergency and regular communication methods, and be aware of their locations.
7. Able to work in a dusty, hot, and/or noisy environment with appropriate available protection which at times is mandatory.
8. Must be able to ascend and descend four to ten foot ladders, and stairways on a regular basis for working in and on, and gaining access to elevated work areas.
9. A high degree of attention and hand-eye coordination is required for the safe and efficient operation of equipment and tools.
10. Must be able to work in various adverse weather conditions with appropriate safety protection. These conditions can include but not limited to extreme heat (100 degrees) cold, high winds, rain and snow.
11. Must be able to verbally communicate using the plant paging system, and telephone communication devices. Must also be able to communicate to co-workers potentially dangerous situations and any other verbal requirements necessary to complete the full scope of job duties.
12. Must be able to learn and correctly use the plant on-line computer system (DCS).
13. Must be 18 years of age.
14. Regular work attendance is required.

You will bring:

  • Capable of accurately fabricating plate structures from shop drawings.
  • Fabricate 3-D pipe runs from drawings.
  • Capable of discerning between mechanical and electrical failures and initiating corrective action as required.
  • Complete all lower grade requirements for grade B classification.
  • Education, special training, or experience required in performing job.
  • 2 years associates degree in Industrial Maintenance is preferred.
  • 3 years of applicable industrial experience required for grade B classification.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D required.
  • Able to remove, repair and install all types of centrifugal pumps and single and double reduction gearboxes.
  • B classification: complete all lower grade requirements. ARC weld in all positions with mild steel, stainless steel, cast iron and able to pass a flat welding test, gas weld with mild steel and brass.
  • Remove, repair and install all drive coupling mechanisms, including proper alignment.
  • Ability to perform alignment on gear box/pump.

  • The U.S. base salary reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $47.73/hourly, and $99,275 annually. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
