Requirements (not all inclusive)
Maintenance I technicians may be hired from the outside should business needs require it.
The normal progression for a Maintenance I technician to obtain top rate is 24 months. During this 24-month progression the Maintenance Supervisor will audit all the above requirements using field exercises and work assignments. Third party testing and training may be used to evaluate and determine proficiency in the required areas. The supervisor should complete Maintenance I progression audit sheet and review the results with the employee. During this progression, a technician may be disqualified at any time due to poor job performance.
Maintenance I technicians may be considered for Maintenance II provided they have been in the Maintenance I classification for a minimum of 12 months and are performing satisfactorily.
Maintenance I technicians promoted to the Maintenance II classification will receive the starting pay for the Maintenance II classification.
You should be proficient in:
- Basic pipefitting/plumbing skills
- Basic computer skills and an understanding of CMMS Systems
- Basic electrical skills
- Basic steam boiler operation and maintenance skills
- Basic non-metallic materials systems understanding and repair (FRP, HDPE, and PVC/CPVC)
- Able to perform duties of mechanic classification including safe work practices /housekeeping.
- Commitment to obtain the training and expertise to advance within the maintenance department.
- Two years service in general plant maintenance or completion of formal training (tech. school) in an industrial maintenance program
- Basic centrifuge/grinder/dryer repair and preventive maintenance
- Welding and fabrication skills
- Basic pump troubleshooting and repair seals
