Pratt & Whitney has 2 openings for a machinist in the CAN (Combustors, Augmenters, and Nozzles) Hot Section Module Center on 2nd shift.
Overview: Setup and operate one machine tool or process equipment type and operate more than one unrelated machine tool or process equipment types within an assigned area to produce precision turbine engine parts. Perform work where methods, procedures and processes are well developed and the required tooling, gaging and fixturing are provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate computer–based systems to retrieve and store information and records.
- Operate tumbling, buffing and polishing equipment, wash machines and dip tanks for part surface conditioning.
- Refer difficulties to leader/supervisor.
- Follow prescribed methods and procedures to perform drilling, riveting and joining operations to assemble various details in producing a finished part. Operate part-marking equipment.
- Utilize a variety of fixed or variable measuring instruments to check dimensions and part features.
- Under the direction of leader/supervisor, work from verbal and written instructions, operation sheets, drawings and other pertinent information.
- Perform bench, assembly and surface finishing operations such as deburring, blending, trimming and fitting, using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Use a variety of media, dry or liquid, to perform cleaning or part preparation and finishing operations.
- May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within an assigned area.
- Following established methods and procedures, use manual or numerically controlled machine machines to produce a variety of sheet metal hardware, including mechanical presses, press breaks, laser punches, etc. Recognize indications of dull or damaged tools and replace as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- US Citizenship required due to government contracts
- 6+ months' work experience in the use of fixed and variable precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers and dial indicators
- Requires an understanding of machine shop practices and a working knowledge of shop mathematics involving the use of decimals and fractions in order to work from engineering drawings and operation sheets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with resistance welding and/or bench assembly operations
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication
