Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:


This position will have the primary responsibility of creating curriculum, planning and delivering Spanish language and culture instruction to young children. We are searching for a passionate teacher who can get students excited to learn the language and experience culture of Spanish-speaking communities within the classroom. Ideal candidates will have disposition to work in a collaborative environment and a strong interest in continuing their professional development.


DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:

  • 3 years teaching experience, preferably with Lower school aged students.
  • Experience living in a Spanish Speaking Country


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, solution-oriented and positive demeanor
  • Ability to plan age-appropriate, engaging lessons regularly and purposefully using the target language, and authentic resources,
  • Engage in professional collaboration as it relates to planning, instruction and social and emotional activities directly connected to student learning
  • Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of teaching methodologies and engage multiple learning styles
  • BA degree in Education or related field
  • Desire to engage in continual professional growth and to be a member of a dynamic community of life-long learners at Miami Country Day School.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of various constituencies within the school community and use interpersonal skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience to all students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
  • Excellent, near-native level fluency in Spanish language
  • Knowledge of diverse Spanish Cultures and the Spanish-speaking world
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to teach Spanish language and culture to young children
  • Creation of curriculum that shows developmental progression and integrates Spanish language vocabulary, grammar and culture in coordination with other disciplines
  • Ability to integrate existing and emerging age-appropriate educational technology in support of language instruction
  • Work in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat of South Florida
  • A willingness to understand and support the school’s mission and vision
  • Adequate physical mobility, dexterity, and strength to participate in school environment and able to ambulate across campus.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:

  • Working with fellow professional for the enhancement of common instructional goal
  • Working with different grade level teaching teams to which you are assigned to plan activities and discuss student progress
  • Maintaining an optimal learning classroom environment
  • Responsibilities inherent in teaching lower school aged students, especially with regard to developmentally appropriate curriculum and fostering of social skills and values.
  • Performing other supervisory LS duties that may include monitoring of break, lunch or dismissal
  • Desire to engage in continual professional growth and to be a member of a dynamic community of learners
