The Local Editor will take a leadership role in determining and shaping Mommy Poppins content in and around Philadelphia, including fielding pitches and commissioning & editing posts by a group of writers.
Were looking for someone passionate about the local parenting scene to provide top notch insider info about the best things to do and tips for navigating life with kids. Must be a digital native with experience creating high quality, SEO-optimized online content, a compelling storyteller, with excellent research, copy and fact checking skills, and have experience using complex content management systems.
The ideal candidate can explore with kids, attend family events and activities, and take great photographs, as well as being active on social media and in the local parenting community.
Objectives

• Create compelling content about local family activities to drive site engagement and traffic; working with local calendar editor and freelancers as needed, providing them with assignment notes and achievable due dates
• Manage editorial calendar, field pitches, and assign freelancers in and around Philly
• Work with the photo editors to help source photos for the posts and website
• Create editorial schedules, working with Managing Editor, and maintaining an up-to-date editorial calendar
• Maintain and manage post promotion, including internal linking, guide updating, and home page updating twice a week
• Attend local activities for editorial coverage, with photography
• Serve as point for gathering and assigning all Philly event invitations and press trips/visits to freelancers & employees who can best carry out the assignment, including photography
• Thoroughly fact check, edit, and SEO optimize local article submissions
• Stay informed and research the hot activities and trends for local parents
