Job Description

Performs line locates for underground utilities. Inspects, tests, and maintains all landscape irrigation systems to assure that each station is properly functioning throughout the growing season. Maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs stand alone and central sprinkler controllers and satellites. Maintains and makes repairs to landscape fountains. Prepares the necessary forms to acquire needed repair materials. Exercises some discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment.

Duties:

  • Tests each irrigation system to make sure that each station is properly functioning.
  • Maintains and makes minor repairs to outside fountains and greenhouse plumbing.
  • Replaces or repairs damaged heads. Repairs damaged heads by taking apart the mechanical heads, repairs or replaces broken parts, and puts the heads back together. Mechanical heads may be simple or complex.
  • Perform line locates for ongoing and new construction.
  • Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Prepares for signature the order forms for materials needed to repair defective water systems.
  • Maintain and repair all central satellites and sprinkler controllers.
  • Makes necessary repairs to breaks in PVC and copper pipe. Involves the use of hand tools to dig, refill, level, replace sod, etc.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Assures proper backfilling of an excavation that might be necessary in order to make system repairs.
  • May operate trencher and backhoe equipment.

Job Requirements


Required Education:
High School diploma or GED, AND;

  • 24 months turf irrigation and landscaping experience, including some trencher and backhoe experience.

Skills:

  • Read and understand complex written materials such as blueprints, metrics or technical manuals
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including a trencher and backhoe
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Communicates verbally and in writing to exchange information or give simple instructions
  • Performs recordkeeping operations

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Physical: Regular exposure to physically demanding tasks such as digging, lifting, bending and stooping,
  • Environmental: Exposure to extreme temperature changes. Handling dirty materials. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
