About the Department: The Public Works Department is comprised of eight divisions that fall under the direction of the Public Works Director. Each division provides an important service to the citizens of York County and contributes to the quality of life experienced by those who live in our county. Of those eight divisions, Road Maintenance maintains approximately 700 miles of roadway under the County’s jurisdiction.


About Our Opportunity


We invite you to apply to join our team as a full-time (40 hours per week), Light Equipment Operator. The purpose of this position is to perform wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of the County’s streets and community.


Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Or Tuesday - Friday 7:00 AM - 5:30 with occasional overtime available. Our crews work four (4) ten hour shifts per week and have 3 day weekends!!!

Essential Functions


  • Operates a variety of mowers, blowers, sweepers, trimmers, edger, chainsaws, pole saws, and weed


eaters to maintain the parks and lawns; inspect tractor and mower for safe and proper operation;


maintain equipment as needed, replacing fuel, fluids, and oil.


  • Assists with repair, removal and installation of sidewalks and walkways; fills in potholes, repairs


road signs, removes and repairs asphalt; and assists with forming, pouring and finishing concrete.


  • Performs regular routine maintenance and service of trucks and equipment.
  • Collects and delivers materials from the collection & recycling centers to the proper disposal facility
  • Stocks vehicles with supplies and materials necessary to perform job assignments; operate, clean,

  • Assists citizens in identifying proper disposal of materials.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements


  • One (1) year of operating light equipment or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.


Special Certifications And Licenses


  • Valid driver’s license is required.
