Job Description

About The Organization

Patients For Affordable Drugs is the only national patient advocacy organization exclusively focused on lowering prescription drug prices.

We

The bipartisan organization, founded by a patient with incurable blood cancer, is independent and does not accept contributions from any organizations that profit from the development or distribution of prescription drugs.


About The Role

  • Reporting to and collaborating with the Executive Dire ctor, the Legislative and Policy Director manages P4AD’s policy and legislative agenda at both the Federal and state level. The Legislative Director leads the organization’s policy work including identifying promising policies and legislative proposals, advocating for legislative solutions the organization supports, working directly with Congressional offices to provide technical assistance, coordinating patient lobbying in-person and virtually, and engaging with executive branch agencies. They also collaborate with the Political Director to work with, encourage and support partners, and allies to support policy reforms, informing strategy on P4AD’s day-to-day activities and specific campaigns.


Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and write P4AD policy, research, and ad hoc reports related to drug pricing.
  • In coordination with the Political Director, cultivate and maintain relationships with organizations and coalitions in the drug pricing policy space.
  • Develop, maintain, and expand relationships with members of Congress, Congressional staffers and executive branch officials.
  • Manage and coordinate Capitol Hill meetings; work with Advocacy and Organizing Director and Political Director in coordination of patient fly-ins and virtual meetings.
  • Manage federal policy portfolio, develop legislative strategy, and advocate for system-changing policies to lower prescription drug prices on Capitol Hill, Executive Branch agencies and with administration officials.
  • Inform the strategy behind advocacy campaigns in support of policy reforms.
  • Analyze and track legislation, rules, and regulations in order to inform organizational positions on key policies.
  • Draft communications for federal policy makers regarding reforms, including public comments and congressional testimony.


Position Qualifications

  • Exhibits sound and accurate political judgment and analysis.
  • Desire to work for a mission-driven organization and uphold P4AD values
  • Writes clearly, informatively, and persuasively with attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Collaborative mindset and contributes to building a positive team spirit
  • Experience with healthcare and drug pricing policy is strongly preferred.
  • Available for full-time (40 hours/week) employment in-person (currently hybrid set-up).
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Minimum 5+ years experience with non-profits, Capitol Hill, political advocacy or media campaigns, or similar is required.
