Job Description

Job Summary

The Department of English at Purdue University invites applications for four (4) full-time Lecturers who can teach mainstream versions of English 106 (Composition) and English 108 (Accelerated Composition). Teaching advanced courses in writing may also be possible, depending on the lecturer’s qualifications and experience.

The standard teaching load is 24 credit hours per year (usually 4/4). This position may provide the opportunity for summer teaching, to be paid in addition to the academic year salary. All instructors in the program need to develop appropriate syllabi and policies within the guidelines provided by the program. Some courses will need to be offered in person every semester.

This is a continuing position, which means it will be reappointed annually as long as performance is meeting expectations and the position is needed.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time academic year (9 month) position that includes benefits.

Qualifications

M.A. in English or closely related discipline; Ph.D. preferred. Evidence of excellent teaching at the college level required.

Also preferred:

  • Evidence of experience within a writing intensive field, e.g. academic writing, multimodal composing, second language writing, or workplace writing;
  • Evidence of success supporting under-represented students;
  • PhD or evidence of graduate coursework beyond the masters level in writing studies or related areas.
  • Evidence of participation in relevant professional development, e.g. online writing instruction;

Introductory Composition at Purdue

Introductory Composition frequently collaborates with the Purdue Libraries, the Office of Undergraduate Research, the Professional Writing program, the Division of Summer Session, and the Writing Lab.
