Job Description

Position Summary

The Program in Film & Media Studies at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a full-time, teaching-track position.

The Film & Media Studies curriculum covers critical studies (including American cinema, global cinema, television, computing, games, social media, and more) and creative practice (including filmmaking, screenwriting, game design, virtual/augmented reality, and more).

This is a full-time, nine-month, benefits eligible position appointed to a one-year (lecturer) or three-year (senior lecturer) term on a renewable basis, with opportunities for career advancement on the teaching track. Course load is normally three (3-unit) courses per semester; additional summer teaching is also available. The successful candidate will start by August 2023 or January 2024 at Wash U’s Danforth campus in St. Louis, MO.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • The lecturer can also develop new courses in their areas of expertise.
  • Beyond teaching, duties will include student advising, committee service, and curriculum planning.
  • The lecturer will be expected to teach across the program’s core curriculum, and successful candidates must also demonstrate experience teaching in more than one subject, whether within studies or across both studies and practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Teaching experience is required.
  • Applicants should hold a PhD or MFA in film/media or a related field.
  • Part of a larger expansion plan in the program, this position will be appointed at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. Applicants for the rank of senior lecturer must have an outstanding teaching and service record commensurate with appointment at that rank.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
