Learning Commons peer tutors provide academic support in a variety of courses and disciplines. Peer tutors help students with homework, model strong academic skills, provide study support, and help students figure out their own learning styles and strategies. Tutors may meet with students in individual or small group settings. Tutors are made available to tutor both in person (JCK Library 1250) and online using Zoom.
Peer Math tutors support students taking math courses at UCM. Qualified applicants will have successfully completed math courses at UCM, maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and demonstrate an interest in helping their fellow students learn. At minimum, an applicant should have passed MATH 1101, MATH 1010, MATH 1111, or MATH 1112 with an A.
Job responsibilities include:
  • Support, encourage, and mentor students
  • Promote the services UCM Learning Commons
  • Review and provide feedback to student work
  • Model strong problem-solving and mathematical skills
  • Log information about student visits
  • Practice active listening & questioning strategies
  • Create opportunities for students to demonstrate their math understanding

Education & Formal Training Computer Skills Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation Experience
At minimum, an applicant should have passed MATH 1101, MATH 1010, MATH 1111, and/or MATH 1112 with an A.
