Overall Description

Croda is seeking a Lead Research Scientist (NMR Spectroscopist) for the Innovation Support and Claim Substantiation group at our New Castle, DE R&D facility. The candidate will be a key contributing member of a collaborative team, providing technical and scientific support to a range of business functions throughout Croda, particularly in the Life Sciences group, through the use of NMR spectroscopy and related techniques.

Key Job Responsibilities

PROJECT WORK

  • Develop and prepare business and technical cases for Capital Purchases of new instrumentation and enhancements for the Spectroscopy team.
  • Perform all duties within the Company’s safety, health & environmental regulations.
  • Document work in notebooks and/or databases as appropriate, including methods and technical reports.
  • Utilize all ISO procedures that govern protocol.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
  • Conduct directed technical project work for Life Sciences and Consumer Care businesses.
  • Evaluate new and existing products in support of business team objectives, including measurement of chemical properties to help identify key characteristics that impact performance.

TECHNICAL SERVICE AND SUPPORT

  • Provide training in data interpretation to regional R&D staff and act as expert resource when called upon.
  • Provide technical service & support to sales, marketing, and operations both regionally, and when required, globally.
  • Respond to emails, phone requests, action items from business meetings
  • Provide reports and host customer visits and training

Education & Training

  • At least a BS in either Biology, Chemistry or closely related science is required; PhD and relevant work experience preferred, with particular emphasis in polymer and/or natural product chemistry.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Moreover, the candidate must be fully familiar and capable of applying modern NMR techniques to generate and interpret spectra from complex mixtures.
  • 2 – 5 years of relevant and proven experience in the application of NMR in supporting research into at least one of the following areas: polymer science, biopolymers and natural products, protein and carbohydrate chemistry. Familiarity with NMR operation, maintenance, and data interpretation.
  • Possession of a good working knowledge of organic chemistry and various analytical techniques is a must, along with good writing and presentation skills.

Skills & Abilities

Communication Skills:

  • Must have oral & written proficiency in the English language.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in MS Office.

Physical Demands

  • Able to walk, stand and sit for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
