Who we are looking for:


We are currently looking for a Lead Quality Engineer to be based out of Phoenix, AZ. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this person will be responsible for overseeing Quality Operations within one or more production areas while developing and maintaining quality processes and reporting. The position will be involved in implementation of new processes, equipment related to the material, and processes needed to support production. This role will supervise a team of Quality Technicians and work to improve quality levels and regulatory compliance.


The ideal candidate will have a two or more years of experience in manufacturing operations leading/supporting the Quality function and supervising employees. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a requirement.


What you’ll do:


  • Support activities related to ISO 9001 standards to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and coach team members with necessary skills to identify problems and challenges, perform root cause analyses and implement countermeasures and solutions as necessary.
  • Develop and implement cross training activities to ensure proper function of the work cells and maximize team’s potential.
  • Instill and maintain a positive “can-do” team atmosphere within the value stream by holding regular team meetings, assigning tasks to team members, empowering team member decision-making, and coordinating support services.
  • Create, implement, and modify standardized work as needed and ensure standardized work is followed by value stream team members.
  • Develop and supervise associates including performance assessment, attendance management, professional development, etc.


What you’ll bring:


  • Ability to analyze reports and performance metrics
  • Two or more years’ experience in a manufacturing environment supporting the Quality function including leading or supervising others. Steel or Heavy industrial manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, such as J.D. Edwards

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering/operations management preferred or equivalent combination of work experience.
  • Capability to develop diverse teams with effective cross training and evaluation methods
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with other cross functional team members.
  • Aptitude to logically approach equipment troubleshooting situations and take corrective action


Within 3 months, you’ll:


  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand your team’s strengths and opportunities.
  • Gain an understanding of the products and processes.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of the training materials and procedures your team owns.


Within 6 months, you’ll:


  • Fully understand how you and your team impacts Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Partner with Safety and Manufacturing to provide corrective measures and find opportunities in areas for continuous improvement.
  • Take full ownership of Lean Daily Management, including Daily Gemba Walks and KPIs.


Within 12 months, you’ll:


  • Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports.
  • Be supervising an efficient team that delivers Atkore’s strategy.
  • Support Lean Excellence strategy for your Production areas. Help implement strategies to address Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
