Lead Linux System Engineer | Hybrid

Optomi, in partnership with one of our premiere clients, is seeking a Lead Linux System Engineer to join their team! This position requires an individual who can maintain, enhance, and improve on key areas of the network and system environments. The right candidate will have experience handling higher level duties and managing network operations.

What the right candidate will have:

• Experience building deployment and automated tools using Bash and Puppet
• High degree of proficiency in Linux and network administration
• Network troubleshooting skills (tcpdump/Wireshark analysis)
• Security audit experience
• Ability to install, configure and maintain Apache and MySQL
• Must be a self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills.
• Advanced CentOS/Rocky Linux/RHEL engineering on the LAMP stack
• Strong knowledge of VMWare
• Security-focused system administration mindset
• Excellent communication and project planning skills; must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience
• Must have experience managing a team.
• Experience with network security and performance tuning (Kernel and TCP parameters)
• Strong knowledge of network technologies: IP Tables, NFS, DNS, FTP, Rsync
• 5 or more years of experience in a large-scale networked Linux environment

Responsibilities of the right candidate:

• Administration of Fortigate networking hardware
• Maintain current understanding of AWS cloud services and evaluate the value of new capabilities.
• Conduct network hardware administration (VPNs, ACLs, load balancers, routers, firewalls, MPLS)
• Manage security, operational policies, administration, and service procedures across multiple datacenters.
• Lead efforts to troubleshoot and monitor network issues.
• Support CDNs, caching proxies and manage multi-site distribution networks.
• Assess utilization trends, design, and implement recommendations to scale architecture.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to team of engineers.
• Work closely with other engineering teams to identify systems requirements.
• Automate deploying and updating network and system configurations (Puppet/Foreman)
• Ensure work is prioritized and assigned to appropriate team members.
• Maintain and monitor centralized logging and monitoring software.
• Optimize, tune, and replicate multi-sites of extremely large data stores (think petabytes)
