The Microservice Core Infrastructure team reports into the Tableau Cloud Platform group, and enables microservices development across all of Tableau. We own foundational libraries necessary for feature teams to efficiently develop, test, deploy and maintain their services, both for on-premise Tableau Server installations as well as for Tableau Cloud / Kubernetes.
As a Lead Backend Engineer on the team, you’ll be helping to shape the future of microservices at Tableau! You’ll work with many teams to help build the best platform for their developers, and ensure their services meet the scalability, availability, and security requirements of Salesforce and our customers.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a role model and mentor to junior engineers on the team.
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation to support services the team owns.
- Collaborate with your fellow Engineers, Product Managers, Engineering Managers and Architects on design, prioritization and execution of those solutions.
- Design and implement technical solutions that meet the highest priority needs of our customers (aka service developers).
Required Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in large-scale service design & development, throughout the entire software lifecycle (design, development, deployment, and production support).
- Experience with at least one object-oriented programming language (Java, C++, C#, Python).
- Experience in cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with containerization technologies like Docker & Kubernetes.
- Experience in gRPC and Protocol Buffers (aka protobuf).
- Experience reducing operational overhead and simplifying large codebases spanning multiple teams.
- Proficient in the Java programming language.
- Experience in platform and/or middleware development.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $188,200 to $258,700.
Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
