The Armstrong Hotel employs 2 laundry persons, in both part-time and full-time positions. The laundry staff maintains a constant supply of clean linens for the hotel and lounge. The attendants report to the Housekeeping Manager but must feel comfortable reporting issues with the machines to the Maintenance Engineer and contracted Chemical Company.

• Collect, sort, treat, wash, dry, and fold all laundry used by the hotel and lounge
• Communicate with housekeeping regarding status of linen stock and transportation of dirty and clean linens
• Operate three washing machines and three dryers, while regularly tending to lint traps and detergent supply
• Maintain a substantial PAR of clean linen in the laundry room at all times
• Able to work with and learn proper handling techniques of chemicals and communicate clearly to the chemical company, Housekeeping Manager, and Maintenance Engineer when there are issues
• Prepare a final stock for housekeeping, according to end-of-day inventory lists
• Assist once a month with Inventory and keep up with reclaim and loss reports
• Clean the laundry room and machines daily to avoid dirty/dusty linens and/or fire hazards

Requirements

• Flexible availability; schedules based on occupancy
• Possess the physical stamina to stand continuously, maneuver loaded laundry carts, and transfer large volumes of laundry from industrial-size machines

Qualifications include:

• Able to take initiative and self-direct
• Able to work successfully with Housekeeping and all other departments as needed with the property
• Able to work efficiently, with an attention to detail

Physical Demands:

• Chemicals can be strong and you may have to change cartridges or control amounts with the loads, safe handling techniques will be taught and required
• Folding laundry requires long periods of standing and bending
• Linens can become heavy when wet. Must be able to safely lift wet linens from one machine and move to the next machine

Work Environment:

The laundry room is in the basement of the hotel located in a locked and secure hallway. You will work alone, with managers checking in periodically throughout the day. The room contains an air conditioning unit and fans, but no heat. While a space heater will be beneficial in the winter morning hours, once the industrial machines are running, it is not needed (i.e. it gets hot in there). You may listen to your own music but it must not be offensive and you must keep volume levels down as there is a restaurant located above.
