Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position is within Facilities Management, Planning & Construction, and Department of Planning. Primary responsibilities will include supporting the Planning department Landscape Architectural and site design group. Responsibilities will also include providing planning and design support for the continued development and improvement of the universities College Park campus. Preparation of presentation quality plans and renderings/exhibits will be required in both computer and hand drawing format. This position offers planning and design support to project teams and departments within Facilities Management.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor of Landscape Architecture.

Experience:
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in Landscape Architecture.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong customer service skills, awareness, and abilities.
  • Must possess knowledge, skills & abilities relative to Landscape Architectural design and implementation of the built environment relative to campus planning and design.
  • An understanding and applicability of the Maryland DNR Forest Conservation Act, including afforestation and reforestation issues related to landscape projects.
  • Interpersonal/soft skills, including effective communication skills, progressive increasing experience and responsibilities in project management and leadership, a strong team member, passionate, outgoing, and empathetic, conflict management and resolution, and adaptability.
  • Familiarity with environmental issues, including general familiarity with the State of Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR):
    • an understanding and applications of Environmental Site Design (ESD) requirements and technologies
    • an understanding and applicability of stormwater management and bio-retention planning
    • an understanding and applicability of the Maryland DNR Forest Conservation Act, including afforestation and reforestation issues related to landscape projects.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the project design process and progression from programming and concept design through project implementation.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards, materials and elements of landscape and site design, including:
    • an understanding of ADA requirements
    • demonstrated knowledge and use of landscape plant materials of the Mid-Atlantic Region
    • demonstrated experience developing planning and design concepts for site grading, drainage, vehicular and pedestrian circulation, and hardscape.
  • An understanding and applications of Environmental Site Design (ESD) requirements and technologies
  • Demonstrated abilities and working knowledge of computer technologies, including AutoCAD 2022, Microsoft Project; Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) Sketch up).3D Max, Blue Beam Revue 20, e-builder. Google Earth Pro.
  • An understanding of ADA requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of landscape plant materials of the Mid-Atlantic Region
  • An understanding and applicability of stormwater management and bio-retention planning
  • Demonstrated experience developing planning and design concepts for site grading, drainage, vehicular and pedestrian circulation, and hardscape.

Additional Certifications:
  • Incumbent will be required to travel to meetings or project sites; if driving a State vehicle, must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points
  • Licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Maryland or mid-Atlantic States Region preferred or on track to obtain a Maryland professional Landscape Architect license within two years.

Physical Demands
Work is performed in both an office environment and in the field. Incumbent must be able to work in a construction site environment and have the ability to work in a hazardous or irritating environment and adverse conditions created as a result of construction. Incumbent must be able to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Work requires travel within the State of Maryland.
