Job Description

Job Title: Lab Technician

Location: New Mexico

Salary: $19-$25 per hour

The Molecular Biology Technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks in a molecular biology laboratory, including:

  • Protein purification
  • Maintenance and cleanliness of the lab areas
  • Analytical techniques, such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, and fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Cloning and expression of genes
  • Creating new assays

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in DNA techniques, including cloning, and experience with recombinant protein expression and purification. Basic understanding of microbial metabolism and enzyme catalysis is also desired. Experience with analytical techniques, such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, and fluorescence spectroscopy is a plus.


Desirable skills include:

  • Careful and thoughtful execution of protocols
  • Strong communication skills to present and summarize research results
  • Special consideration will be given to those with experience working with RNA and/or experience in protein/enzyme biochemistry
  • Ability to manage time and see tasks to completion
  • Desire to learn new techniques and ability to digest primary literature as a learning tool

Education:

Bachelor's degree in experimental biochemistry/molecular biology or related field, with the requisite research experience and a strong publication record.
