Job Description
A multidisciplinary vision neuroscience laboratory seeks a highly organized, meticulous, and motivated Laboratory Manager to help the PI with coordinating experimental operations involving of stem cell transplantation for optic nerve regeneration in small and large animal models.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in designing, planning, coordinating, and supervising experimental projects conducted by 4-6 other laboratory personnel including students, postdoctoral fellows, and research technicians and specialists.
Maintain inventory of experimental reagents, supplies, and equipment.
Assist with experimental projects by performing histology, protein and molecular biology analyses, confocal and multiphoton imaging, and image analysis (Image capture, reconstruction, and data analysis for morphologic study using Imaris, ImageJ, Neurolucinda, and Metamorph software, development and validation of new algorithms as needed).
Assist the PI with preparing, submitting, revising, and cataloging regulatory paperwork and certification, including ACUC protocols; ISCRO, recombinant DNA, biohazard, hazardous chemical, and dangerous substance registrations; material transfer agreements.
Assist a research specialist in maintaining mouse colony (genotyping by tail snip PCR, breeding, weaning, record keeping).
Preparation of manuscripts and data analysis with co-authorship, may present at national or international meetings.
Assist in husbandry and experimental measurements involving nonhuman primates (the large animal facility staff perform general husbandry and anesthesia).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
Five years related experience, including proven technical knowledge andlaboratory experience
Master's Degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

Starting Salary Range: $54,080 - $74,390 - $94,710 annually (Commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
