Job Description
Job Summary


The main responsibilities will be to allocate bulk samples to appropriate areas based upon client request through gravimetric analyses, prepare clean labware, and completing assigned sample analyses. Will also be responsible for daily operation and maintenance of the Inductively Coupled Plasmid (ICP) Instrument, microwave acid digestion, dilution, and filtration of feed and forage samples for mineral analyses, daily operation of the Foss Soxtec 8000 extraction unit with some acid hydrolysis pre-extraction, daily operation of forced air ovens, and muffle furnaces.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Wash glassware and labware by hand
  • Responsible for disposing of chemicals properly
  • Responsible for Feed and Forage microwave acid digestion, dilution, and filtration for the ICP Instrument
  • Ensure adequate reagents & chemicals associated with each type of analyses are available.
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
  • Responsible for analysis of Fats(some acid hydrolysis preextraction) on the Foss Soxtec 8000 extraction unit.
  • Maintenance and calibration of instruments
  • Assists in maintaining a safe work environment
  • Communicate effectively with management and staff
  • Responsible for allocating bulk samples to appropriate areas based upon client request through gravimetric analysis
  • Responsible for ICP analysis of feed, forage, and water samples and daily maintenance of ICP Instrument.
  • Keep current on lab methods and procedures
  • Handle wet glass and use a tube brush
  • Help maintain equipment and overall cleanliness of the wet chemistry lab

  • Remain stationary for reasonable periods of time communicating with employees, and customers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products


EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE


  • Previous Chemical lab experience preferred
  • Previous lab experience or familiar with lab environment required
  • Bachelor's Degree (Chemistry Major) preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Occasional travel between Dairyland Labs locations may be required
  • There may be occasions when the work environment is stressful
  • Will be exposed to chemicals, dust, molds, smoke, other allergens (i.e. nuts), high temperatures, and strong odors on a regular basis
  • Work schedule will normally be Monday through Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM with occasional weekend and/or evening hours depending upon need
  • Must wear personal protective equipment
  • Work is performed largely in a laboratory environment with moderate noise level and dusty environment
