Job Description

Position: Laboratory Manager

Reports To: Director or General Manager

FLSA: Exempt

Position Summary:

Oversees laboratory operations to achieve quality and productivity expectations in a cost effective manner.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Determines appropriate staff schedules in order to meet workload demands.
  • Documents all activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provides technical support in resolution of client issues and concerns and for troubleshooting testing problems.
  • Develops mechanisms to reduce costs and improve productivity for clinical testing.
  • Oversees development of maintenance procedures and documentation of laboratory equipment.
  • Reviews and writes standard operating procedures.
  • Supervises lab personnel, including coaching, performance management, competency assessment, training, hiring, and scheduling.
  • Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Labcorp, CLIA, CAP, ICH GCP, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Assists in development of procedures and technical utilization of calibrators and controls for assay ranges.
  • Oversees the laboratory proficiency-testing program with the Quality Manager.

Required Education/Degree:

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, a Life Science field of study or a related Scientific Field

Required Certification/License:

California license, ASCP designation or CLIA Qualified

Required Work Experience:

Demonstrated knowledge and competency in the following: company philosophy, mechanics and test procedure calculations, sample stability and test requirements, quality control and performance requirements, principles of the tests, special test related issues and precautions, and reagents required and preparation. Demonstrated ability to interact with others to achieve desired results.

Relevant experience in a clinical reference lab or related industry or academic experience. Preferred at least a minimum of 1 year experience in special coagulation.
