Job Description
Job Summary

This position would be a temporary, part-time, on-call, at-will. The person selected for this position will be appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the presiding judge of Justice Court. Normal place of work will be the Justice Court Precinct One Courtroom.

Experience and Education

Applicants for Justice of the Peace must possess the qualifications established by Arizona Supreme Court Administrative Order #2002-66 and Yuma County Superior Court Administrative Order #93-23, i.e. the applicant must:

  • Be willing to work weekends and holidays for initial appearances (credited at 5 hours per day, as directed by the Presiding Justice of the Peace)
  • Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Yuma County
  • Be of good moral character
  • Make application using the approved county application form; complete the application; and provide a resume which describes relevant aspects of your personal and professional background, qualifications, experience and other information relevant to the position; and in addition, provide three (3) professional and three (3) personal references
  • Abide by the Code of Judicial Conduct in all respects
  • Be a practicing attorney in Arizona in good standing for 3 years
  • Be at least thirty (30) years old
SALARY:
Salary of the Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore is the same as the Justice of the Peace of Yuma Precinct #1 and the position is NOT eligible for participation in the Arizona State Retirement System.

Medical Coverage Category
The YCEBT is a self-funded medical plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). The employee is able to select from three (3) medical plan options with six (6) tiers that will best suit the employee's needs, dependents or families.
Plan Option 1: Preferred Provider Option A (PPO) or PPO A 900 deductible with $10.00 Wellness Incentive. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $20 monthly premium reduction.
Plan Option 2: Preferred Provider Option B (PPO) or PPO B 1,200 deductible with $10.00 Wellness Incentive. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $20 monthly premium reduction.
Plan Option 3: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) or HDHP-HSA with Wellness Incentive.
HDHP-HSA Wellness Incentive for Employee Only option can receives upto $240.00 annual contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card.
Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan: SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan. The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
