Junior Mechanic
Summary: This position is an entry level position. Associate works under the direction of the Supervisors and the Journey Mechanics. Responsible to learn production sequence. Performs basic lubrication, oil changes and Preventative Maintenance on conveyor systems and bakery equipment. The associate will need to work safely, efficiently, and with a minimum amount of disruption to the production process. Responsible for seeking understanding of communications by clearly expressing facts and asking correct follow-up questions. A training program will be provided and must be completed to the satisfaction of supervision with periodic reviews from leadership. A 30-60-90 day evaluation will be conducted by maintenance supervisor and/or manager.

- Potential Schedule: Start Time: 10:00pm. Will be working weekends and two days off midweek!

Essential functions and Requirements:
Essential tasks:
- Respond to maintenance and line stoppage calls prepared to provide emergency repairs efficiently and quickly. Move material as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Perform basic maintenance calls under supervision.
- Follow company policy and OSHA regulations to ensure safe work habits and conditions for employee and fellow employees. Responsible for preventing loss or injury due to improper or unsafe operation of equipment. Responsible for following Lock-Out and Tag-Out procedures as well as specific procedures dealing with confined spaces and hazardous material/
- Maintain a clean and safe work area within the Maintenance Shop at each work site where jobs are performed.
- Attend regularly and on time to assigned job with a five (5) day work schedule (including weekends and consecutive days off). Shifts are for eight (8) hours or more. A 12 hour shift might be scheduled.
Ongoing requirements and standards:
- Do not change job procedures without authorization from Supervision.
- Maintain a high state of safety awareness. Keep hands out of moving machinery. Lift properly, be alert to movement of materials or other people to give right of way as needed.
- During periods of unworked time or downtime, it is required that work is to be done as assigned by Supervision.
- A quality product is the responsibility of each employee. Be alert to handle or report any damaged or inferior product to Supervision.
- Notify Supervision of any equipment problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Keep area of assigned work neat and clean. Assist other employees when possible.
Physical and Mental requirements:
- Capable of moving up and down building stairways in plant to reach job assignments and perform tasks required. Tasks required working from a ladder or elevated platform and in confined spaces such as ovens, proof box and bulk storage bins or tanks. Physical activities required are climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, fingering, talking and hearing.
- Capable of exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift and move mechanical components.
- Mental and visual ability to identify various parts, read mechanical and electrical blueprints, read instruction, gauges, scales, thermometers, micrometers, etc. must be able to do basic calculations to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- A relatively high level of analytical ability is required in order to complete training and learn troubleshooting.
- Frequent, internal contact with Production works and Supervisors. Occasional contact with outsiders such as contractors and equipment service representatives.
- Must posses a high drive to learn.
- Must maintain clean work areas.
- Independent judgment is often required. Some direct guidance is received from Supervisor and/or from established procedures or instructions. Errors relating to equipment may cause injury to employees or may cause unacceptable product quality.
- Must have reading, writing, and verbal skills.
- Job duties are varied and spread over a number of locations, therefore, special assignments are created on a case-by-case basis.
- High School or equivalent, and specialized or technical training which may be obtained in high school, commercial or shop courses or equivalent experience.
