Department: Baseball Operations - Performance Science

Reports to: Director, Performance Innovation Lab

Status: Full-Time

Location: Glendale, AZ

Pay Rate: $68,000 - $77,000/year*

The Los Angeles Dodgers are seeking to hire a Junior Applied Research Scientist to be based out of our Spring Training Complex in Glendale, Arizona. The role lies within the larger Performance Science team, which is tasked with leveraging physics and motion science to uncover ways to aid in the development of athletes. The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated, self-starter with at least 1 year of research experience and a degree in biomechanics, engineering, or a related science discipline. The candidate must also exhibit a highly professional demeanor, strong problem solving, communication and organization skills. The role works closely with coaches, players, and front office personnel on a day-to-day basis.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Working with data visualization tools; interpreting reports and communicating results to front office, coaching staff, player development, scouting, and medical/performance staff as well as players
  • Performing preliminary ad hoc data analyses to support Baseball Operations
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support organizational research & development efforts
  • Supporting research projects focused on player performance and biomechanics
  • Collecting, processing, and analyzing biomechanics and other tracking data from a laboratory and/or on-field setting
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Basic Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Exposure to biomechanics data collection and analysis tools (motion capture systems, force plates, IMUs, pressure sensors, Visual 3D / OpenSim)
  • Computer programming and database experience (preferably Python, SQL; MATLAB familiarity a plus)
  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Knowledge of recent advances within the public baseball research and tech communities
  • At least 1 year of research experience (previous work with human subjects / athletes a plus)
  • Strong communication (written & verbal) skills
  • B.S. in mechanical engineering, biomechanics, physics, kinesiology, or a related STEM field
