ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT


The Facilities Department is responsible for maintaining, servicing and improving the Jeffco Public Schools' 12 million square feet of schools and support buildings, valued at nearly $2.75 billion on 3,100 acres of land. The Facilities Department includes more than 700 employees in Building Maintenance and Site Maintenance, Construction Management, Custodial Services, Environmental Services, Energy Management, Facilities Service Desk, and Planning & Property. Overall Duties include boundaries, long-range facility planning, enrollment projections, energy and utility management, capital and bond-funded improvements, custodial services, facilities assessments, facilities maintenance, hazardous material management, landscape and paving, property management, snow removal, water and wastewater management.

**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY Perform journey level duties relating to the maintenance, repair, installation, preventive/planned maintenance, layout, and troubleshooting of facility structural systems, including locksmithing. Perform minor maintenance duties in secondary trades. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and secure learning environment for students, staff, and the public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Install, repair, and maintain all lock types including door, file cabinets, furniture, cash registers, and elevators. Repair safes, file cabinets, and cash registers. Change combinations. Create and maintain keying systems and hardware scheduling.

  • Perform journey level skilled functions in construction, renovation, and maintenance relating to all forms of surface and flooring systems; permanent, moveable, and portable partition and wall systems; hard, suspended, and acoustic ceiling systems; windows; window coverings; doors; exit devices and closers; and inclusive hardware.

  • Cut keys for different types of locks by means of copy, code, smoking code, or hand file, including tubular and warded types.

  • Evaluate, design, estimate, identify, and requisition materials for each work assignment.

  • Create hardware schedules and keying systems for construction and remodel projects, and oversee projects for compliance.

  • Perform journey level skills in the assessment and evaluation of structural system deficiencies and appropriate corrective action to include technical expertise and assistance to other departments.

  • Coordinate with schools, staffs, and other involved trades for proper timing of installations, repairs, re keying, and maintenance of facilities.

  • Perform journey level carpentry skills related to District facilities and relocate able buildings.

  • Pick and unplug locks and extract broken keys.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/ GED required, plus technical courses in locksmithing. Asbestos (16 hours) and Power Act Tool Courses required within 3 months after hire.

EXPERIENCE: 6 years experience in journey level institutional, commercial, or industrial maintenance and new construction maintenance, including 4 years certified locksmithing experience and experience in two secondary trades related to facility maintenance.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Good language, good communication, and math skills. Must be bondable. Journey level knowledge in trade methods, materials, and trade tools. Basic experience and knowledge of safe repair, combination changing, and manipulation of safes. Knowledge of Uniform Building Code sections 2, 3, 4, 5 and blueprint reading. Operating knowledge of and experience with scaffolds, ladders, and regular and tubular key machines. Operating knowledge of manlifts within 2 months after hire. Must pass written general structural and locksmithing knowledge test prior to hire.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Colorado driver's license and Locksmith Certification. LCN/Rixon Install and Maintenance Certificates within 12 months after hire.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Acts as a technical resource for employees within the work group by providing training, and for architects, contractors, and facilities personnel regarding bond projects, maintenance service contracts, and daily maintenance.

CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons within/outside department/building to resolve problems and negotiate matters. Weekly contact with vendors/suppliers to furnish or obtain information.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: High exposure to self to bruises due to power equipment and falling from high places and to cuts due power equipment. Medium exposure to self to heat burns due to power equipment and electric shock, fractured bones due to falling from high places, hernia due to lifting heavy objects and equipment, repetitive motion due to use of power equipment and hammer, loss of limb due to power equipment, loss of sight due to power equipment and airborne particles, and fatality due to falling from high places and electrical shock. JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by work/service orders, Security Department, or Group Leader. This position requires application of technical knowledge to evaluate safety and security problems, acquire materials, coordinate work schedules, and make repairs. Work is guided by Uniform Building Code, Register 40 CFR 763.92 (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act), departmental procedure manual, and regulations pertaining to educational facilities. Decision making requires collaboration with supervisors, Group Leader, principals, Building Engineers, warehouse personnel, co-workers, contractors, and vendors. Errors in decision making could include failing to perform appropriate research and re keying an exterior door with a common key resulting in break-in and property theft, and/or inadequate repair or installation of structures or equipment resulting in serious injury to self, students, staff, and public. Supervisor/Manager is involved only in major decisions.

DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Duties require cross-training in locksmithing, welding, flooring, sheet metal, roofing, HVAC, concrete, painting, staining, ceiling systems, wall assemblies, glazing, service truck, cabinetry, drafting, plumbing, and electrical. Must be cross-trained and have experience in a minimum of two secondary trades. Duties extend within immediate department.
