Job Description
Encova Insurance is a super-regional Top-20 mutual insurance carrier headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We have an outstanding opportunity to join our team as a Java Developer and learn Guidewire. This position is fully remote, but candidates must live within a three-hour driving distance of our Columbus, Ohio office to be able to work in person for meetings and projects on an as needed basis.
We are seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Java developer looking to start a challenging career developing on the Java-based Guidewire Insurance Suite. Guidewire has been positioned as a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Property and Causality Core Platforms in Europe and North America.
Encova Insurance is continuing to transform and enhance Policy, Billing, and Claims systems by leveraging the Guidewire Insurance Suite. We are seeking an energized Java developer who can quickly learn new technologies and bring their strong Java development knowledge into the Guidewire space. The ideal candidate will have strong skills associated with design, development, integration, and object-oriented programming concepts.
In this role, the developer will work on a collaborative remote agile development team responsible for creating industry leading insurance solutions for both internal and external customers. Java experience is required, Guidewire training will be provided.
Responsibilities Include
  • Leverage tools like Dynatrace and Splunk to monitor and improve the application performance and troubleshoot application issues.
  • Plan, design, develop and maintain Java/Gosu application code within Guidewire.
  • Support a CI/CD pipeline and Docker environments to enable responsive software delivery.
  • Create solution design recommendations and effectively present solution options for implementation.
  • Support production applications and on-call responsibilities.
  • Build standalone microservice applications outside the Guidewire platform.
  • Work within a remote Agile development team.
Required Skills
  • Prior experience in developing Java web applications.
  • Strong skills associated with the design, development, and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts. J2EE, XML, REST, SQL, or other object-oriented programming language knowledge and experience.
  • Highly motivated and ambitious, excellent communication skills, creative & critical thinker
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in computer science or engineering
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with business teams and international partners.
