Job Summary
The Janitor cleans and keeps in an orderly condition factory working areas and washrooms, or premises of an office, commercial or other establishment. Duties involve a combination of the following: Sweeping, mopping or scrubbing, and polishing floors; removing chips, trash, and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms.
Primary Duties
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.
  • Maintains building interior by dusting and polishing furniture, equipment, mirrors, and fixtures; washing windows, counters, walls, ceilings, and woodwork; sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; cleaning and vacuuming drapes, furniture, and carpeting including carpet scrubbing; resupplying rest rooms; replacing light bulbs.
  • Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transporting materials to disposal area; collecting recycling materials.
  • Maintains parts and equipment inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed parts; anticipating cleaning equipment replacement; placing orders.
  • Keeps cleaning equipment operational by following manufacturer's operating and care guidelines; completing operator repairs and parts replacement.
  • Maintains building accessibility and appearance by picking up papers and trash; replacing light bulbs.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Maintains safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • At least one (1) year custodial experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to perform routine tasks on special class mail as well as routine and repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Must be able to stand, reach, and walk for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to use hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop and kneel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
