In 2023 Seattle Center is expanding its role to provide operations, maintenance and public safety services for Seattle’s new Waterfront Park, a series of new public spaces on Seattle’s downtown waterfront between Pioneer Square and the Seattle Aquarium. Seattle Center will bring its deep experience successfully managing public space to the waterfront. We are seeking a qualified Janitor to provide cleaning and maintenance services to offices, building and restrooms in various Seattle Center Facilities. The Janitorial team works in the Technical Facilities Management Division and reports to the Operations Crew Chief.

Job Responsibilities

  • Remove graffiti from various surfaces. May use work management system to report information.
  • Provide uplifting customer service while answering general customer questions. Contact with the public can be extensive and intense, depending on the shift.
  • Assist with moving furniture and other objects.
  • May operate riding commercial floor scrubbers, high speed floor burnishers, carpet shampooers, and other small to high-capacity cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Assist with routine building and facility maintenance.
  • Handle and dispose of litter, garbage and recycling, including the removal of contaminated materials.
  • Clean light fixtures and change lamps as directed.
  • Transport materials, equipment and supplies required to complete assigned work.
  • Perform routine preventive and predictive cleaning activities including high dusting; specialized cleaning of carpet, vinyl tile, resilient floor and concrete surfaces; and restocking supplies in bathroom areas in a fast-paced, crowded environment.

Qualifications

You will be successful in this role if you:

  • Are comfortable working alone or in a team setting after being given oral or written instructions.
  • Can read and comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Are willing and able to work above ground level from ladders, scaffolding or lift devices.
  • Are available to work a variety of shifts. Janitor crews work multiple shifts, day and night, 362 days a year. Work shifts assigned may include working weekends and holidays.
  • Are willing and able to work with cleaning chemicals and hazardous or toxic substances.

Preference will be given for applicants who possess these desired qualifications:
  • Ability to read and write in English and possess basic math skills.
  • Twelve months experience in performing commercial janitorial duties.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills with ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work within a diverse workforce, demonstrate cultural sensitivity and inclusion in performing duties,
  • Have a general familiarity with small hand and power tools, pressure washers, power scrubbers and floor cleaning and floor finish machines.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Required to work on ladders/scaffolding above ground level.
  • Ability to frequently lift 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
  • Work shifts will be either 5:30 am – 2:00 pm or 12:30 – 9:00 pm. Start times may vary depending on events.
  • Work may be outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time to perform the full range of duties.

Additional Information

The full salary range for this position is $ 23.14 - $ 24.92 per hour.
