The IT Database Administrator position within UScellular’s IT Database Services team provides a unique opportunity for individuals who are talented, creative, excited with new technology, and ready to accept challenges. The position allows candidates with previous database administration experience the opportunity to dive deeper into advanced database technologies and obtain exposure to other infrastructure domains such as server, storage, network, and security. The IT Database Administrator would be responsible for building, monitoring, maintenance, and operational support of our portfolio of Oracle and SQL Server databases. This role would work with application and other infrastructure teams to deliver business and infrastructure projects. Tasks include implementation, administration, backup, security, software upgrades, and troubleshooting. The position is part of a team that manages business critical OLTP and multi-terabyte data warehouses utilizing the latest technologies in the industry such as RAC, Golden Gate, Exadata, Hadoop, MS SQL Server Clustering, and more.

We are focusing on DBAs with Oracle backgrounds for this role who are interested in learning MS SQL Server. Ultimately, a DBA on this team will be able to support both Oracle and MS SQL Server databases in our environment.

Location Note

This role is a hybrid work arrangement where the candidate can perform this role in-office or remote as part of our on-purpose, for a purpose model. It will be expected that members of this team will be getting together in our Chicago office around 1-2 days a month. We are seeking candidates that either live in the Chicagoland area or can reasonably commute to our office in Chicago should a meeting or collaborative session be scheduled.

Essential Functions

Under limited supervision:

• Build, support, and patch high performance database systems.

• Work with application and infrastructure teams on implementing customer-servicing application releases and infrastructure projects.

• Analyze database & system response time and determine tuning recommendations to improve performance.

• Effectively identify and resolve issues within scope of work following established resolution process.

• Participate in, and encourage a knowledge-sharing environment both within, and outside the department.

• Participate in on-call duties.

Required Experience

• Minimum 3 years’ experience of UNIX (IBM AIX or Linux) platform, Oracle RAC/ASM, RMAN, OEM, Oracle Partitioning, Shell scripting and/or PL/SQL scripting, Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Net are required

• Minimum 1 year experience of Exadata, Oracle OVD, Oracle GoldenGate, Microsoft SQL Server and/or Hadoop is highly desirable.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly and efficiently pinpoint and resolve problematic system issues.

• Strong change management skills; change agent.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience supporting mission critical infrastructure in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience / Profile

• Candidates with Oracle DBA backgrounds interested in expanding their skillset and learning MS SQL Server database technology.

COMPENSATION : Salary Range target is $70,000 to $113,751.
