Job Description
Thurston County is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill an Information Technology Consultant I (ITC I) position with the Information Technology (IT) Department.
The Information Technology Department provides desktop, network, application, telecommunication, and geographical information system services. The ITC I position is part of the Desktop Team and provides critical technical expertise and works with staff and customers in a team setting for the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of countywide information services.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Recording support interactions within the IT Service Desk tracking software.
  • Communicating with vendors for technology hardware and software purchases and support.
  • Developing and providing documentation for assigned systems. Installing and upgrading a variety of desktop software packages.
  • Configuring and installing personal computers and software in a network environment. Providing first-line technical support to clients through helpdesk or direct customer consultation.
  • Assisting customers by remote access or guiding the customer to correct an issue. Troubleshooting and diagnosis of technology problems.
  • Analyzing, diagnosing, and resolving software and hardware issues. Researching options for equipment upgrades and replacements.
  • Responding to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically. Evaluating, purchasing, configuring, installing, and tracking hardware and software.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Employee regularly sits for long periods of time at a computer screen. Physical exertion is required for lifting up to 50 pounds. Installation of various computer parts may also require bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, and crawling.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
  • Knowledge of hardware including personal computers, communication devices, printers, plotters, etc.
  • Knowledge of software including network and desktop operating systems, office automation, programming languages, database products.
  • AA degree in information technology, computer science or related field and two years of progressive responsibility.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a security background investigation.

DESIRED SKILLS:

To be successful in this position, candidates will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Ability to manage small, complex information service projects from inception through completion.
  • Punctual, regular, and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to participate as a member of a team and utilize the resources of other team members. Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage many projects simultaneously.
  • Experience installing printers, plotters, and scanners. Excellent customer service skills.
  • Windows 10 configuration, installation, troubleshooting and support in a complex network environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups including customers in high stress situations.
The ideal candidate will also have the following:
  • Audio Visual/Video Conferencing configuration and support experience. Technology purchasing experience.
  • Inventory Management experience.
  • Professional IT certification.
  • Windows 10 Operating System, Office 365, Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) desktop imaging, and software deployment experience.
