WHAT TO EXPECT
As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. The Gates Mobility Engineering Intern will be responsible for assisting engineers and project management in meeting project timelines/deliverables and undertaking engineering process improvements in design, inspection, testing, and validation. Interns could work on many aspects of the mechanical and material design process, including design, analysis, prototyping, and validation of components for Gates drive systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Design:
- Design product enhancements, prototype, and test for performance.
- Updating customer model database to keep current and address old or missing files.
- Develop and compile design guidelines into Mobility Design Manual.
- Research and experiment with alternative materials and process concepts.
- Coordination with suppliers for part delivery/tracking.
- Conduct material utilization studies to reduce cost and improve performance.
- Conduct process capability studies for various manufacturing processes to reduce variation.
- Evaluate inspection equipment for new capabilities and efficiency.
- Perform design for manufacturing (DFM) studies on current and new products.
- Investigate product tolerance impact on part performance including tolerance stack up in assembly.
- Project Management and communication of project status and progress.
- Coordinating work among stakeholders for new product development.
ABOUT YOU
- Pursuing a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering
- Curiosity and willingness to understand how our products are designed, built and how they operate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to easily connect and communicate with different types of people
- CAD design skills, SolidWorks a plus
- Experience creating engineering drawings (GD&T experience is a plus).
- Ability to work 40 hours a week in the Denver, CO office
- Corporate experience, a plus
- Strong sense of urgency and follow-through
- Ability to work effectively in office and with a remote team
- Positive attitude and strong desire to learn
- Passion and interest in mobility (bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, powersports, automotive, etc.).
- Strong desire to develop a professional career in engineering
- Ability to troubleshoot last minute changes and stay calm under pressure
- A passion for collaboration and customer support
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proven interest in mechanical design engineering through extracurricular activities, academic projects, passion projects, or equivalent experiences
PAY
- Hourly Pay - $17 - $20/hour
- Intern - 20- 40 Hours per week
