Job Title: Intermittent Public Motor Vehicle Cashier


Division: Vehicle Services

Location: 405 Lake Cook Rd, Deerfield, IL – Cook County, Zone 5


Salary: Starting pay for Intermittent (Part time) is $17.71 hourly.


Hours: Monday (8 hrs) and Saturday (4.5 hrs)


Please Note:


To be considered for this vacancy you MUST establish eligibility by taking and passing a written, multiple-choice examination administered at an ILSOS Personnel Office in either Springfield or Chicago. Appointments for testing may be made by contacting the Personnel office at which you would like to test or walk-ins will be accepted at the following testing sessions: 9:00 AM, Monday – Friday or 1:00 PM Mon/Wed/Fri. Overview:


Performs responsible cashier duties at a Vehicle Services facility involving the receipt of monies in connection with the processing of a variety of vehicle title and registration applications, the validation of such fees and applications, and the over-the-counter issuance of license plates, stickers and ID cards to the general public, companies, dealers and remitters and validates transactions with daily receipts.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • May assist in training novice cashiers.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Takes daily inventory of stickers and plates balancing with daily sales.
  • Verifies information and fees; determines proper classification and validates vehicle service related documents including title and registration applications for a variety of classifications and types of motor vehicles; issues license plates, stickers and ID cards to the general public, trucking companies, dealers and remitters.
  • Balances validation machine with total sales insuring that checks and cash match totals on validation tapes.


Specific Skills:


  • Requires working knowledge of inventory recordkeeping methods.
  • Requires ability to work under stress situations.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of office methods, practices and procedures.
  • Requires ability to operate in an independent manner.
  • Requires ability to operate a validation machine rapidly and accurately.


Education and Work Experience:


Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school and one year of related experience of a clerical nature preferably including the operation of a validation machine.
