Job Description


The Atlanta Police Department Major Crimes Division is looking for an Intelligence Analyst to support investigators with online searches, data retrieval and online data tracking. Position requires analyst to offer online support for investigators when needed and provide on-call data retrieval. Ability to manually search online for data, experience in data mining, archiving and experience using automated systems to monitor social media a requirement.


Intelligence Analyst is also responsible for investigating, analyzing, obtaining and compiling records and information to assist law enforcement personnel with any and all types of criminal investigations. An understanding of all social media platforms a must whether on a computer or mobile device and knowledge of different types of electronic devices preferred. Mac and PC proficient as well as a firm understanding of Microsoft Office and various operating systems (Windows) are required. An understanding of the needs of investigators and the ability to locate online data appropriately and quickly is required. Excellent verbal and written skills as well as the ability to multi-task and accept requests in real time while managing other clerical responsibilities. Discretion, security clearance and confidentiality required for this position.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Excellent written skills as well as maintaining detailed progress reports. -Knowledge of various, if not all, social media platforms including mobile-based applications and chat rooms. -Research and test automated systems and have the ability to teach automated systems software to investigators if needed.
  • Ability to communicate over multiple digital mediums relaying evidence to investigators promptly and accurately.
  • Ability to run preliminary criminal background checks on all persons involved in case. -Ability to deliver documentation to investigators quickly or up-load in real time to their mobile devices via email or text message. -Knowledge of Cloud-based programs and storage applications preferred.
  • Involved in every aspect of the case file, from creation to reading and verifying all of the reports on the computer to make sure they validate for UCR/GCIC.
  • Social media search support for investigators in the Major Crimes Division, data mining and recovery of evidentiary information. -Ability to juggle many different cases and keep accurate record of data retrieved. Must maintain organized and detailed internal records of cases and have the ability to access data quickly for investigators.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to direct other agencies to the appropriate division preparing any documentation when needed.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports electronically and in-person.
  • Prepares, edits and distributes crime bulletins and ?bolos? to keep proper departments and agencies informed of possible criminal activity.
  • Assists in executing wiretaps, surveillance, and other investigative research operations. -Ability to testify about data and how data was retrieved and archived if needed.
  • Must have ability to work with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. - Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Licensing Requirements: -Valid Driver?s License from state of residency.
  • This position may require: 24 hour on call assignment, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, 10-hour, 12-hour, and rotating shifts. -The majority of this position is sedentary.
  • Ability to navigate the internet quickly locating the necessary data to aid investigations. - Assists in maintaining case files documentation such as wiretaps, interviews, surveillance, reports and ensures compliance with federal guidelines.


Qualifications


GCIC/NCIC Certification within six months of hire. Education Requirements:


Bachelor?s Degree or Master?s Degree in Criminal Justice, Computer Forensics, or pursuit of this degree with expectation of completion within one year of hire or related field of study preferred. OR -5 to 10 years practical experience in data retrieval, data mining, experience with multiple software programs in a work environment required. Must have experience performing investigative research, developing criminal history and statistical reports, operating a computer and applicable software. In addition, experience in or a completed degree in Liberal Arts is also preferred.
