UW Medicine Faculty Practice Plan Services (FPPS) supports UW Physicians (UWP), a practice group for more than 3,000 physicians and other healthcare professionals associated with UW Medicine. UW Medicine includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center - Montlake, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Medical Center - Northwest, the UW School of Medicine, Valley Medical Center, and Airlift Northwest. UWP members also practice at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, a partnership of UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
UW Medicine Faculty Practice Plan Services (FPPS) has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift, INSURANCE FOLLOW-UP SPECIALIST (Patient Account Representative 2).
The Insurance Follow-up Specialist is responsible for the optimal payment of claims from commercial insurers, managed care plans, and state and federal plans and other guarantors through work queues throughout the Revenue Cycle including but not limited to Follow-up, Claim Edit, Charge Review, Account, Router Review, Retro Review and Case Rate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts timely and accurate work with the goal of resolving outstanding claims quickly and maximizing appropriate revenue.
  • Accurately deciphers denial reason and decides follow-up steps utilizing the Epic billing system by analyzing rejection issues.
  • Identifies and resolves payor specific coding issues and provide feedback to Coding and Charge Capture team as appropriate.
  • Displays sound judgment in choosing the most efficient and effective method of follow-up, including appealing denials, taking adjustments, e-mail, payor websites and telephone inquiries.
  • Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with solid judgment and discretion.
  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing with payers to bring resolution to claims as quickly as possible.
  • Keeps current with payor updates and policies to assist in payment of claims.
  • Documents clear and concise narrative using smartphrases in Epic of steps taken to facilitate resolution of outstanding claims/issues.
  • Takes accountability for meeting productivity standards and department required quality measures.
  • Works collaboratively with UW Medicine and UWP departments including Compliance, Charge Capture, Patient Accounts & Inquiry, Claim, Payment & Credit, Payor Relations, and Physician Services.
  • Actively seeks and recommends process improvement opportunities through daily work.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
    REQUIREMENTS
    High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in patient accounting, customer service, or a related office environment
    OR
    equivalent education/experience.
    DESIRED
  • Possess knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and HCPS coding, and medical terminology to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Conveys a positive and professional image, and to interact effectively with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates excellent typing/keyboarding skills (min. 45 WPM) with a high degree of accuracy to input data, process information and extract information in various report and presentation formats.
  • Strong verbal and written English language understanding and use.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Proficient using Windows based software and Microsoft Office Suite products in a network environment.
