This Role Will Require You To


Your goal will be to create a learning environment that provides inmates/detainees the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform vocational tasks.


  • Counsel your students concerning their performance, behavior, and personal problems.
  • Assess educational needs of inmates, develop lessons plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.
  • Administer, score, and interpret examinations and proficiency indicators.
  • Provide instruction to inmates/detainees for various labor and/or technical skills. through classroom instruction, demonstration, and practical exercises.
  • Maintain records including testing, daily offender work, attendance and general record-keeping.

Qualifications


Competencies Required

Minimum Requirements


  • NCCER qualifications: Four years of trade experience or three years of experience teaching a specific trade.
  • Two (2) years of relevant teaching experience preferred. *
  • Valid teaching certificate from the state Department of Education preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • NCCER Certification or the ability to obtain NCCER Certification within 90 days of hire required.
  • Certification in one or more trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC or commercial painting preferred.


Physical Requirements


  • Occasionally: lift or carry up to 20 lbs.; push or pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequently: lift or carry up to 10 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, walk, sit or stand.
