Other Conditions: Appointment to begin approximately August 2023, pending position clearance and availability of funding. Renewal of appointment is dependent on performance, program needs and/or availability of funds.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo is the most diverse four-year public university in the United States, located in a geographically diverse and mixed-use island community. The UH Hilo School of Education provides pre-service and in-service teachers with high-quality, integrated, inquiry- and-field-based professional development, serves as a resource to area educators teaching in a culturally rich and diverse setting, and conducts as well as guides action research to expand knowledge of teaching and learning. The School offers an undergraduate certificate in Educational Studies, a Master of Arts in Teaching program which leads to initial licensure in the State of Hawaii and a Master of Education program in Teacher Leadership for in-service teachers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage in curriculum development and program assessment
  • Observe teacher candidates in schools
  • Participate in education-related cultural events
  • Advise students
  • Engage in partnerships with K-12 schools, education agencies, and the Hawaii Department of Education
  • Teach campus-based and web-based courses in education

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must have:

  • Master of Education degree (or equivalent) at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of ability to teach teacher education courses, such as those listed at the following URL: https://hilo.hawaii.edu/catalog/ed-courses
  • Evidence of teacher leadership experiences
  • A minimum of three years of K-12 classroom teaching experience


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Successful experience with mentoring teacher candidates
  • Successful experience working in the Hawaii K-12 system or other school system with diverse populations
  • Successful experience with at least one of the following: elementary education, special education, technology and learning, or other specific content area.
  • Successful experience with culturally affirming teaching and learning and/or successful experience with place-based teaching and learning
